Ferry, Jacobson are Big 10-bound, and other news



The University of Illinois landed another top-level prospect when it received a commitment from Lemont RHP/OF Josh Ferry. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Ferry enjoyed a breakout junior campaign and carried it over in the summer, displaying an upper-80s fastball to go along with a hard-biting slider. Ferry, who’s ranked No. 19 in the 2011 class, joins New Trier OF Charlie Tilson (ranked No. 2) and Mount Carmel RHP John Kravetz (No. 22), among others, in the Illini’s recruiting class. …

Eric Jacobson, a 6-foot-2, 160-pound MIF from St. Ignatius HS, has committed to the University of Michigan. Jacobson has been a starter at St. Ignatius since his freshman year. Jacobson batted .417 as a junior for the Wolfpack. …

Andy Kovarik, a strong bodied 6-foot-2 RHP/3B from Prairie Ridge HS, has committed to St. Xavier University. …

Jack Czeszewski, an OF/LHP who’s one of the top prospects in the Class of 2012, is transferring from St. Viator HS to Elk Grove HS.
