Ferry earns Porsche Exchange Player of the Week

By Sean Duncan

Josh Ferry enjoyed a week to remember, as he made Lemont HS history and earned the WJOL Area Invite MVP by putting together a string of performances that won?t soon be forgotten.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound right-handed pitcher tossed the school?s first perfect game on Friday, then followed it up the by blasting a walk-off home run in the seventh inning to defeat Lockport. And that?s not all the University of Illinois recruit accomplished to earn the Porsche Exchange Player of the Week honors.

On Friday, Ferry retired all 18 batters he faced during No. 18 Lemont?s 10-0, six-inning victory over Minooka. Using an 87-89 mph fastball and a hard-biting slider, Ferry struck out nine ? half the batters he faced ? to advance to the Indians to the WJOL Area Invite semifinals.

?It was almost like watching a video game out there,? said Lemont coach Joe Rodeghero. ?It was incredible to watch. ? He has matured beyond his years.?

The following day against Lockport, in the third place game of the WJOL Area Invite, with the game tied at 5-5 in the seventh, the left-handed hitting Ferry blasted a two-run, walk-off home run to defeat Lockport 7-5.

For the week, Ferry went 7 for-21 with two home runs, eight RBI and five stolen bases. On the mound, he pitched seven innings, struck out 12 with one hit and no walks. Earlier in the week, he pitched one inning and struck out three, allowing one hit.

For the season, Ferry is 2-0 with a 0.58 ERA. In 12 innings pitched, he has recorded 23 strikeouts to three walks.

The Porsche Exchange salutes Ferry for his hard work and success.
