No. 9 Teutopolis? 33-Game Winning Streak Ends

The Dietrich Maroons put an end to the longest winning streak in the state behind their Parkland College-bound 6-foot-1, 175-pound RHP Sam Thoele.

Thoele fired a three-hitter at the defending Class 2A champs as the Maroons defeated Teutopolis 4-1. Thoele fanned 11 Wooden Shoes hitters and improved to 3-0 for 2011. Thoele has now struck out 36 in his three outings this spring.

Dietrich (6-4) benefitted from a pair of costly Wooden Shoe errors, which led to three unearned runs, making a loser of John A. Logan-bound Derek Repking (3-1). Teutopolis (14-1) will face Breese Central and Nashville at home on Saturday. Wooden Shoes ace LHP Derek Thompson (5-0) will face the Cougars of Breese Central at 10 am.

No. 11 O? Fallon (16-3) blanked Trenton-Wesclin 9-0 behind Panther junior RHP Sam Hopkins, who fired a four-hitter and improved to 6-0 on the season.

Hopkins lowered his ERA to 1.89.

University of Pennsylvania-bound C Austin Bossart had a 3-for-3 day, including his first round-tripper of the year and drove in three runs. Cedar College-bound Sam Summerlin went deep for the third time this season and drove home two.

Summerlin now has a Panther-leading 28 on the season. Senior Casey Truitt had two hits and two RBI.
