No. 5 St. Laurence (2-0) rallied past St. Paul (Md.) 4-3 as senior 3B Mike Chimera drove in the game-winner. Senior Brian Villanova had a pair of hits, including an RBI double. Viking 6-foot-1 freshman Mike Kornacker pitched 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief for the win and had an RBI single at the plate.

No. 7 Plainfield North survived their opener, defeating Morris 7-6 on senior Evan Whaley?s game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh. Whaley had three hits for the Tigers.

Plainfield North struck for four runs in the bottom of the first for senior RHP Sean Renzi. Renzi threw three scoreless innings and left with a 4-0 lead.

Morris (0-1) rallied against the Tiger bullpen. Redskin Greg Struck launched a two-run bomb and singled home the tying run in the top of the sixth. Plainfield North reclaimed the lead 5-4 after 6. Morris? Ryan Brenickus gave the Redskins the lead  with two-run blast 6-5 in the top of the seventh.

Plainfield North junior Joey Cresta knotted things up at 6 with a solo shot and, moments later, Whaley sent the Tiger faithful home happy.

No. 17 Westminster Christian rolled past Genoa-Kingston 7-1 in the Warriors? opener. Ambidextrous junior Ryan Perez (1-0) and fellow junior RHP Kevin Elder dominated on the mound for the Warriors. Perez, who pitches with both arms, tossed four shutout innings for the win. Elder pitched the final three innings, striking out eight.

Junior OF Dylan Scully had a pair of hits, including a two-run single. Fellow junior INF Tyler Green also had two hits for the Warriors.

Whitney Young (1-0) blew out Juarez 13-3 in five innings behind a five-RBI performance from senior 3B Tim Sonnefeldt, who was 3-for-3 with a double. Senior Eugene Tab picked up the win on the mound for the Dolphins.

Mundelein (2-0) routed Mather 14-2. The Mustangs were led by Austin Ozog, who had a pair of hits and four RBI. John DeVito chipped in with two hits and three RBI.

Chicago Christian (3-0) blanked Lisle 8-0 behind junior RHP Trent Overzet, who improves to 2-0 on the season. Junior Jon Lemmenes and senior Joe Glotz each had RBI triples for the victorious Knights, who scored four times in the fourth and fifth innings.

Murphysboro (1-1) blasted Cobden 11-0 in five innings behind a no-hitter from 6-foot-3 Illinois State-bound LHP Dylan Craig. Craig (1-0) struck out 14 Apple Knocker hitters in his masterpiece.
