Illinois lands another top-level junior prospect

The University of Illinois landed another top-level junior prospect when it received a commitment from Stevenson SS Adam Walton. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Walton is one of the premier athletes in the Class of 2012, as he showed during the Fall Prospect Program by running a 6.72 60.

Walton didn?t play varsity baseball for the No. 3-ranked Patriots last year, but he emerged over the summer and fall seasons as arguably the top middle infielder in the Class of 2012. Defensively, Walton has advanced actions, quick feet, soft hands and a solid arm across the diamond.

Walton marks the second junior commitment to the Illini in a week. Earlier, Highland Park catcher Jason Goldstein gave his verbal commitment. Both Goldstein and Walton are top 10 prospects in the state.
