In Focus with senior RHP Jared Ruxer

Jared Ruxer is a 6-foot-4 inch 195 pound right handed-pitcher with a blistering 94 mph fastball.  As a junior he asserted himself as one of the states top pitchers, and is currently apart of what is considered the best one-two starting combination in Indiana, and quite possibly the Midwest alongside fellow teammate Christian Montgomery.  Though most consider Montgomery to be the official ace of Lawrence Central?s pitching staff , many high school coaches in the Indianapolis area admit if they had to give the ball to a pitcher in a must win situation, Jared Ruxer would be their choice.

Ruxer?s poise and mound presence are extremely imposing for a high school pitcher.  He possesses a calm, cool, and collective approach to pitching, rarely showing any emotions. His focus is not on the previous play or previous inning, but instead always on the next pitch.  He attributes much of his success to his even keel personality, and ability to put the previous play behind him.

?If I start to worry about a previous mistake or an error in the field, I?m not completely focused on my next pitch.  If I?m not focused, chances are a mistake is likely going to happen again.?

As a junior for the Lawrence Central Bears, Ruxer was a successful 6-1, with a 2.12 ERA and 51 strikeouts. He was awarded a spot on the all-Conference Indiana team, a member of the all-Marion County Team, as well as a winner of various team awards.

Ruxer?s junior year success, however, was not limited to on-field awards, but also included success on the recruiting front.  The University of Michigan, University of Arkansas, Stanford University, Ohio State, Indiana University, Ball State, University of Tennessee, and University of Louisville all began showing major interest in the right-handed ace during his junior year.  After listening to each schools pitch and making several visits, Ruxer narrowed his list down to college baseball powerhouses Stanford, Arkansas, and Louisville.  While it was a tough decision to narrow the final list down to one, Ruxer decided becoming a Louisville Cardinal was the best decision for him.

?The coaching staff is the biggest reason I?ll be attending U.L. next fall along with its strong academic programs.  Coach Williams has worked with a lot of great pitchers who are currently in the big leagues.?

Ruxer will join former high school teammate, and current Louisville short stop Alex Chittenden.

?U.L. is a program with a lot of recent success, and I believe playing for them gives me a great opportunity to be a part of a national championship team.  Knowing that Alex is down there and hearing about his experiences at U.L. as a freshman were also key reasons for me choosing to be a Cardinal. ?

Although he has already committed to Louisville, Ruxer figures to be an intriguing prospect when it comes to the upcoming draft.  He continues to mature both physically and mentally with each passing season.  His commitment to improving his body and overall pitching has him poised for a successful senior season and beyond.
