Jacobs' Gigeous picks Pac-10 school, and other news

Henry Gigeous, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound junior RHP from Jacobs HS, has verbally committed to the University of Oregon. The strong-bodied Gigeous established himself as one of the premier Class of 2012 right-handers in the country over the summer when his velocity climbed as high as 93 mph.  Gigeous, however, is more than just a power pitcher, as he also features a firm curveball that has the potential to be a plus pitch. Gigeous, who has been ranked among the top three prospects in the Class of 2012 since early in his sophomore year, will likely be on the short list of pro scouts when he is a senior.

In the seven years the Prep Baseball Report has been covering Illinois high school baseball, Gigeous is the first player to commit to the University of Oregon. With Gigeous? commitment, four of the top nine players in the junior class have now offered verbals, joining Oak Forest RHP Kyle Funkhouser (Louisville), Highland Park catcher Jason Goldstein (Illinois) and Stevenson SS Adam Walton (Illinois).

In other recruiting news, Jacob Sharp, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound RHP from Alleman Catholic HS, has committed to Blackhawk JC. Sharp, who?s ranked No. 39 in the Class of 2011, was one of the top unsigned arms in the state. As a junior, Sharp posted a 6-2 record with a 1.99 ERA. In 67 innings, he struck out 77 and walked 20. ?

Judson University landed a pair of St. Charles East prospects when it received commitments from left-handed hitting 1B Tony Rallo and LHP Mike Upton.

Matt Banks, a RHP/INF from McHenry HS, has committed to Upper Iowa.
