Kaneland's Thorson earns Porsche Exchange Player of the Week honors

In a rain-shortened week, Bobby Thorson certainly made the most out of his limited opportunities.  In a three-game series against DeKalb last week, the unsigned senior from Kaneland HS went 7-for-10 with two grand slams ? one of which was the game-winner in the seventh ? two doubles and drove in 13 runs. He also threw a complete game in another victory.

The 6-foot third baseman had a slugging percentage of 1.600, hit .800 with runners in scoring position and had an OBP of .727 during the Northern Illinois Big Twelve conference series.

Thorson began his monumental week by allowing six hits and one earned run in a 10-2 rout of DeKalb. At the plate, he went 3-for-3 with a grand slam, double and six RBI. On Thursday, Kaneland trailed 6-1 heading into the seventh before the team rallied for seven runs to win 8-6. Thorson?s grand slam, which cut through a strong wind, provided the winning margin in the thrilling comeback. Thorson capped his week by going 2-for-3 with a double and three more RBI to lead Kaneland to victory.

For the season, Thorson is hitting .512 (21-for-41) with 25 RBI, 3 home runs, including two grand slams, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 8 walks and only four strikeouts in 53 plate appearances. He has a .951 slugging percentage and a .604 OBP.

On the mound, he has allowed only one earned run in 29 innings pitched, giving him a 0.24 ERA. He holds a 2-1 record with 34 strikeouts and 10 walks with one shutout and two complete games.

The Porsche Exchange salutes Bobby Thorson for his hard work and success.
