Missouri's CBC hammers Collinsville at Border War

By Sean Duncan

SAUGET - CBC showed why it is one of the premier teams in Missouri, as the Cadets hammered Collinsville 12-0 Saturday in the Prep Baseball Report’s Border War at GCS Ballpark.

CBC (4-1) hit three home runs and scored and received a stellar pitching performance by right-hander David Schmidt. The junior, who was making his first start after having labrum surgery, used an 87-90 mph fastball to strike out six with one walk and three hits in six innings.

The Cadets’ offense provided plenty of support for Schmidt. CBC broke open a 1-0 lead in the fourth with five runs, and added six more in the final two innings. Matt Brown hit a solo homer to start the big fourth inning, and Danny Chastain added a two-run homer later. Brown a 6-foot-3, 215-pound freshman third baseman, hit two home runs and finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs.

Chastain, the eight-hole hitter, went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBI. Western Kentucky-bound outfielder GJ Strauss went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs.

“We had production throughout the lineup,” said CBC coach Mason Horne. “It’s nice to see different guys step up.”

Collinsville (4-2) mustered only three hits and advanced to second base twice all game.

“We competed well for the first four innings and then we kind of died out there,” said Collinsville coach Pete Trapp. “We’re young and we’re learning.”
