Class 4A Super-Sectional Championships

(In Bracket Order)

 

Illinois Wesleyan

No.1 Naperville Central (36-4) defeated No.12 O’Fallon 3-2. Shane Conlon threw a four-hitter and struck out 10 to improve to 11-0. (see story)

 

Rockford (Riverhawks) I

No. 2 Stevenson (34-3) rolled past Maine South 5-1 behind a four-hitter by Northwestern-bound senior RHP Kyle Ruchim (7-2). Ruchim fanned 10 as the Patriots advance to state for the first time in school history. The Patriots fulfilled their end of the dream matchup in Joliet on Friday with No.1 Naperville Central.

 

Senior first baseman Patrick Wilson plated the first Patriot run with a single and then scored on a two-run blast off of the bat of Patriot right fielder Erick King for a 3-0 lead. Senior Kory Cutler and Ruchim added an RBI each.

 

Crestwood (Standard Bank Stadium II)

No.4 St. Rita (31-9) defeated Andrew 3-1 behind NIU-bound LHP Anthony Andres (10-3). The future Huskie scattered eight hits and fanned 12 in leading the Mustangs back to Joliet, where they finished second to New Trier in 2009. Mustang junior first baseman Joe Filomeno singled home a run to give the ‘Stangs a 2-1 lead in the third.

 

Rockford (RiverHawks II)

Huntley (29-9) slipped past Wheaton North 2-1 behind a pair of Red Raider senior RHPs. Senior Jake Staab picked up the win on the mound but needed help from St. Xavier University-bound RHP Chris Klein, who nailed down the save for the Red Raiders.

 

Class 3A Super-Sectionals

UIC Super-Sectional

Defending Class 3A State Champion Joliet Catholic Academy will meet Kenwood Academy on Tuesday at UIC in the supersectional. Kenwood Academy stunned Harlan 2-1 to win the Brooks Sectional championship game on Monday. Bronco Joba Ferrel pitched the Broncos to the first sectional crown in school history.

 

Sauget (GCS Park)

No. 3 Chatham Glenwood (30-4) survived a scare from Troy-Triad and advanced once again to Joliet with a 5-4 win in 8 innings. Titan junior left fielder Mike Fiaush hammered a game-tying two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth and then scored the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth, scoring all the way from first on a misplayed fly to center after leading off the eighth with a walk. Titan senior 3B/RHP Jake Ingold relieved Glenwood ace junior RHP Phil Maton in the fourth with the Titans down 4-1.Ingold put out the fire in the fourth and went on to blank the Knights the rest of the way to pick up the win in relief.

 

If Joliet Catholic Academy (22-14) handles Chicago Kenwood Academy Tuesday at the UIC Super-Sectional, the fans on Friday will begin their quadruple-header, beginning at 10, with a rematch of last-years Class 3A State Championship between JCA and Glenwood. JCA won 3-2 to take home the 2009 Class 3A crown.

Marian Central Catholic of Woodstock defeatd Nazareth Academy (see story)

 

Rock Island (Augustana College)

De Kalb (26-10) defeated Galesburg 8-4 to advance to Joliet on Friday.
