No.1 Providence (1-0) smashed Plainfield East 14-2 in six innings, in the Celtics? season opener in Plainfield. Notre Dame-bound second baseman Kevin DeFillipis had three hits, including his first round-tripper of 2011. Indiana University recruit senior 3B Sam Travis homered and doubled and drove in three Celtic runs. Senior Dan Potempa had a bases-clearing double for the top-ranked Celtics. Senior RHP Austin Vazquez (1-0) picked up the season-opening win on the mound.

No. 2 Downers Grove South (1-0) defeated No. 46 Benet Academy 8-3.

No. 3 Nazareth Academy (3-0) rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Reavis 4-3. Senior SS Michael Barajas, hammered a three-run shot to lead the Class 3A favorites to victory. 6-foot-5 junior LHP Ryan Marske (1-0) picked up the win. Senior 3B Anthony Baldassano and senior Matt Radford chipped in with two hits apiece. Barajas? blast was his second three-run homer of 2011.

No. 4 St. Rita (3-0) dismantled Clemente 8-1 behind Purdue recruit junior RHP Eddie De La Riva. De La Riva (2-0) allowed one hit and struck out seven in his six-inning stint. Louisville-bound 1B Joe Filomeno hammered a two-run shot for the Mustangs.

No. 5 St. Laurence (5-0) concluded their Orlando, Florida spring trip with a 9-2 pasting of Bethesda (Md.) Landon 9-2. Senior Bryan Villanova had a 3-for-3 day with an RBI. Freshman Mike Kornacker had a clutch two-run single as the Vikings completed a five-game sweep of the South.

No. 9  Mt. Carmel (2-0) rolled past Kenwood 11-1 in five innings. University of Kentucky-bound senior LHP Jeff Boehm (1-0) fired a complete-game two hitter, striking out an even dozen. Sophomore Jerry Houston and Sam Kint each drove in a pair of Caravan runs.

No. 16 O?Fallon (3-1) take two of three on Tennesee trip. Senior Casey Truitt had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run as head coach Jason Portz?s Panthers concluded their spring trip with an 11-1 rout of Tipton-Rosemont (Tn.) Academy. Austin Peay-recruit LHP Matt Meadows (1-0) pitched four shutout innings for the win. Meadows, C Austin Bossart, and senior 1B Cody Seeburger each chipped in with two hits.

No. 23 Streamwood  (2-0) defeated  Ridgewood 11-0 in six innings. Senior LHP
Dalton Lundeen (1-0) fired four no-hit innings, striking out eight, for the Sabres. Junior OF Zach Bucher, led the Sabre attack with two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Junior Bobby Post had a perfect 3-for-3 day, scoring three runs.

No. 26 St. Charles East (1-0) hammered Barrington 7-2 in the season opener for both schools. Senior LHP Dan Ditusa pitched three innings, allowing one run and struck out four, to pick up the win. Left-handed senior 1B Tony Rallo had two hits and a three RBI. Ryan Shaffrey scored three three times, singled and stole a base, for the Fighting Saints.

No. 28 Brother Rice (1-1) blasted Whitney Young 10-0 in six innings behind a two-hit gem from junior RHP Garrett O?Neil. O?Neil (1-0) struck out six Dolphin hitters. The Crusaders were led by juniors Ryan Koziol and Brian McQillan, who each drove in a pair of runs.

No. 33 Simeon (4-0) rolled past Juarez 11-1. Freshman Darius Day had a 3-for-3 day with a triple and two RBI. Junior Shane Brown had a pair of RBI-triples. Sophomore Robert Fletcher chipped in with a pair of hits, including an RBI double. Quincy Collins improved to 2-0 on the mound for the Wolverines.

No. 34 Burlington Central (1-0) defeated Crystal Lake Central 5-3 behind junior C Tanner Scott. Scott blasted a three-run homer among his two hits and senior RHP Sam Klein, who was 9-0 in 2010, picked up the win, with a solid five-inning performance. Klein (1-0)  allowed a run and three hits. Senior Nick Hahn added a pair of hits and and drove home a Rocket tally.

No. 45 Marist (0-1) fell 9-2 at Miami (Fl.) Christopher Columbus.

No. 49 Lincoln-Way North  (2-0) blanked TF South 7-0 behind five shutout innings from senior RHP Sam Cook (1-0). Cook allowed three hits for the Phoenix. Senior 3B Alex Eaton, led the Phoenix attack with a pair of hits, including a triple, and had four RBI.

Oswego (1-0) blanked IMSA 15-0 in five innings. Panther senior Scott Algretti and Nick Gerber combined for a no-hitter. Junior Parker Meek led the Panther attack with three hits.

Rich Central (1-0) hammered Harlan 12-6 in their season opener. The Southland Conference  favorites were led by Olympian Brandon Fowler, who had three hits and three ribbies.

Evanston (2-0) routed St. Ignatius 13-1 behind the booming bat of senior Kenny Horwat. Horwat hammered a pair of homers and drove in seven Wildkit runs.

The defending Central Suburban North champs Highland Park (2-0) rolled past Lake View 13-1. Giant junior Dan Oversen had a perfect 4-for-4 day with an RBI to lead the HP attack. Sophomore Brent Shimanovsky (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for P.

Chicago Christian (5-0) routed St. Francis de Sales 13-6 in Chicago. Knight juniors SS Michael Kamp and 1B Trent Overzet led the attack. Kamp had three hits and three RBI.Overzet chipped in with a pair of hits and two RBI.

Lisle (2-2) defeated Immaculate Conception 8-3. Senior 3B Nick Thome homered for the Lions. Sophomore Ryan Van Volkenburg picked up the win on the mound.

Danville (3-1), behind Cody Burton, defeated Mahomet-Seymour, 11-1. Burton (2-0) scattered four hits and struck out nine, as he out-dueled M-S ace Parkland College-bound Jason Ziegler (1-1). Burton used his bat, as well, collecting three hits and two RBI. Mahomet-Seymour (4-1) suffers their first loss of 2011.

Metamora (2-0) blanked Rock Island 3-0 in Rock Island. Redbird RHP Andrew Christensen fired a three-hit complete-game shutout at the Rocks. Christensen struck out 13.

Coastal Carolina-bound 6-foot-2 RHP Joe Perricone led Hersey past Williamsville 8-3 in the Huskies opener at Williamsville. Perricone (1-0) allowed two hits and struck out
four.

Pleasant Plains (2-0) crushed Seneca 13-3 in six innings. Cale George was 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Cardinals. Danny Reiser (1-0) pitched three no-hit innings to pick up the win.

Du Quoin (2-0) defeated defending Class 1A runner-up Goreville 2-1, behind a one-hit gem by Trent Bigham. Connor Wheeler drove in the game winner for the Indians in the bottom of the sixth. Gorevilles? 6-foot-6 LHP Nick Andros was the tough-luck loser for the Black Cats. Andros struck out 13 Indian batsmen.
