Prep Baseball Report

Nick Saldutti talks about heading to Butler University

PBR: What schools were you considering?

Nick: I was considering Butler, Eastern Illinois, Wright State, and some others.

PBR: Why did you choose Butler?

Nick: I chose Butler because it was the best fit for me academically and athletically.  I really liked Coach Farley and the baseball program at Butler.  Butler also has a great academic reputation.

PBR: Was it important to stay close home?

Nick: It was important so that my family can come and watch me play.  Butler being close to home is nice so that my family can come to many of my games and I can also come home and visit when I want to.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Nick: They expect me to get stronger and work hard, and hopefully I can contribute right away.

PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?

NIck: I was excited for the summer season.  I knew that if I wanted to play in college I would have to have a great summer.  I knew that this summer there were going to be many scouts and coaches at the majority of the games.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Butler?

Nick: I think that my biggest strength is my left-handed bat at the plate. If I continue to work hard and play to my potential, I think that I can help Butler right away.

PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player?

Nick: It has helped me tremendously.  Playing against some of the top teams and players in the country has helped me a lot.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Nick: My parents, and my dad especially.  He has had a lot to do with my success.  Also the coaching staff at Westfield.

PBR: What were your stats for this summer season?

Nick: 86 AB - AVG: .477/ 28 RBI's/ 13 Doubles/ SLG: .709/ 30 Runs Scored

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced in Indiana?

Nick: Pitcher: Christian Montgomery (11th round pick of the New York Mets)
