PBR catches up with recent Valpo commit Scott Jerge

PBR: What schools were you considering?

Scott: I was considering Valparaiso, Villanova, Evansville,  Penn,  Miami of Ohio and some other schools

PBR: Why did you choose Valparaiso?
Scott: I chose Valpo because it was a good fit for me athletically and academically.  I liked the coaching staff a lot and thought that they would help me develop as a player.  The school also has a great academic reputation.

PBR: Was it important
to stay close home/travel ?
Scott: It was, my family and friends love watching me play and Valpo being only an hour away will help out a lot.  I can also make trips home occasionally when I have time.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Scott: The coaches expect me to come in and contribute right away.  They said that I will have a good opportunity to be in the starting rotation.

PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?
Scott: Playing with Top Tier I knew that I would have the chance to pitch in front of scouts every game.  I knew that if I pitched well that would lead to chances to play in college.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you
will help Valparaiso?
Scott: My biggest strength as a player is that I can throw three pitches effectively for strikes.  I am a competitor and have experience playing on some very successful travel and high school sports teams.  All of this will help me contribute to Valparaiso's baseball program.

PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Scott: Playing with Top Tier the past two summers has helped me in a number of ways.  First, I had great coaches who helped develop me as a player.  Second, I played with some of the best teammates from Illinois and Indiana which also helped me improve.  Lastly being on Top Tier we always played against very good competition.  Playing for Top Tier made me a better player and a more confident player.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Scott: Todd Fine and all of the other Top Tier coaches, Ralph Bufano, Jim Crowell  and also my parents.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Munster?
Scott: My stats were 3-1, E.R.A. 1.87, 39Ks in 31 I.P.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced in Indiana?
Scott: toughest pitcher: Jordan Minch     toughest hitter: Jose Andrade
