PBR Indiana sits down with UIndy commit Brett Collins

PBR Indiana recently had the opportunity to sit down with Brett and ask him about his decision to play collegiate baseball at UIndy!

PBR: What schools were you considering?

Brett: I considered playing at Murray State University, Olney CC, Butler University, to name a few..

PBR: Why did you choose Uindy?

Brett:  University of Indianapolis seemed to be the best overall fit for me (academically and athletically).  I got a chance to see the campus on two different visits and it just felt like the right opportunity.

PBR: Was it important to stay close to home?

Brett: It would be nice to play closer so my family can watch me play, but it's only about 3 and a half hours from home so it is not a very far travel to come and watch a game.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Brett:  Hopefully I can progress and continue to gain strength and more velocity to earn my way to make an impact my freshman season.

PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?

Brett:  Going into the summer I had a couple of options on where I might go, but I committed to U of I during the middle of July this summer.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you
will help Uindy?

Brett:  I'm not going to be a good showcase pitcher and Wow coaches with my velocity, rather I thrive and compete in game situations.

PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player?

Brett:  Travel ball has helped me tremendously in all aspects of the game.  Each weekend you get to go out and face draft picks, division 1 players, etc.  It makes you a better player, and allows you to figure out what to improve on.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Brett:   My former Little League coach (passed away from cancer) Larry Collins, Quentin Merkel, Joe Lis, Mark LaRue, and my father Terry Collins.  They were my biggest supporters and biggest critics.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Evansville Memorial?

Brett:  29 RBI in 12 games .385 avg.  58 IP- 16 Earned Runs. 18 Walks.  8 wins 1 Loss 4 Saves.  1.83 ERA 70 K's
