PBR talks with recent Dayton commit Nick Weybright

PBR recently had a chance to talk with Lawrence North SS Nick Weybright. Weybright, ranked 30th in the class of 2012, recently committed to play baseball at the University of Dayton next year. Here is PBR's Q&A with Wey

PBR: What schools were you considering?
Nick: I was considering Dayton, Ball State, Valpo, Indiana, Butler, and Bellarmine.

PBR: Why did you choose Dayton?
Nick: I choose Dayton because it just fit me well. It is a very nice, smaller campus that has very impressive educational credentials. It has a very real sense of community that I loved.  Also the coaches Vittorio and Talarico were a huge part in my decision.

PBR: Was it important to stay close home/travel?
Nick: Yea it was important to stay somewhat close to home so my family could come see me play.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Nick: My coaches expect me to come into the program and make an immediate contribution and help the team out anyway I can. They gave me areas to improve on such as speed and strength which I'm focusing on hard now in my workouts.

PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?
Nick: I really didn't know how the recruitment process worked. I just went out and played my best, hoping college coaches would see me.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Dayton?
Nick: I believe my biggest strength as a player is my fielding ability an ability to read pitchers. It will help Dayton because defense and speed are high priorities in their program.

PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Nick: I have played travel baseball since age 11 and it has helped me because I have always played against a very high level of competition. Playing for the Indiana Irish this summer gave me a great deal of exposure to a large number of college coaches.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Nick: My father has had the biggest impact on me because he would always push me and support me through everything I have done. He gave me the opportunity to play travel ball and was always there to cheer me on and push me to do better.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Lawrence North?
Nick: 2011 Combined HS & Travel Stats: BA .343 OBP .459 SB 16 H 48 RBI 26 Fld% .933  DP 22

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced in Indiana?
Nick: The toughest pitcher in Indiana that I have faced is Jared Ruxer and the toughest hitter was AJ  Reed.
