Q and A with 2012 Boston College Commit Jesse Adams

Jesse Adams, an outfielder and left-handed pitcher from Toledo St. John's, recently committed to Boston College. After spending the summer playing with Baseball U out of New Jersey, Adams finally made a commitment to play in the ACC. Learn more about this talented two-way prospect and his recruiting process...

PBR: Why did you choose Boston  College?
Adams: I chose Boston College because it has great academics and allows me to play in the ACC.  After visiting and meeting with the coaches I knew Boston College was the right fit for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Adams: Wake Forest, Notre Dame, Air Force, and ECU

PBR: Where did Boston College first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Adams: Boston College first saw me at an Area Code tryout for the New York
Yankees and after that they were able to see me pitch and play the outfield at the University of Virginia and WWBA 17u at East Cobb.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Adams: Coach Gambino expects me to compete for a starting outfield position as well as earning innings on the mound.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as  a player and how do you feel that you will help Boston College?
Adams:  I feel my biggest strength is that I am a two way player who is able to play the outfield as well as pitch. With the limited number of scholarships offered in college baseball, a two player is beneficial to any program.

PBR: When we last spoke, you were making plans to play for the Baseball U Prospect Team out of New Jersey. Describe your experiences playing for a team located outside of Ohio.
Adams: Baseball U was a great experience. Without playing for Coach John Wells I would not have received the opportunities or exposure from many of the east coast schools.

PBR: What sort of sacrifices did you have to make to play a travel intensive schedule? What sort of advice would you pass on to players looking to make the same decision?
Adams: Baseball U travels together as a team for 3 weeks down the east coast playing at numerous universities until reaching Atlanta, Georgia for the WWBA 17u. That being said, I was away from home for the majority of my summer. My advice to a younger player looking to make the sacrifices that I made would to find a comfortable fit and coach who is connected with the universities you want to play at.

PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Adams: The most memorable experience for me this summer was the 3 week trip we took down the east coast, playing at some of the top schools in  the country.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Adams: My father because he was my coach until I was 14 and he still plays a big role in my baseball success.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Toledo St. Johns?
Adams: .514 batting average, 4 homeruns, 43 runs scored, 25 RBI,  21 stolen bases. I was 10-0 on the mound with a .99 era and 80 strikeouts in 56 innings.

PBR: Recently, your high school teammate, Nate Pearson committed to the University of Toledo. With a talented roster, what are your team and individual goals for your senior season?
Adams: We are very excited for next spring’s baseball season. We have a lot of returning starters who are very talented and a few strong leaders. We are hoping to make it to the final four of states and win the first TRAC championship.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Adams: Matt Wisler from Bryan High School.
