Q and A with 2012 Ohio State Commit Luke McGee



Luke McGee, a left-handed pitcher from Wooster, recently committed to Coach Beals and The Ohio State University. Learn more about his recruitment process and the reason behind his commitment to the Buckeyes.
 
PBR: Which schools were you considering before committing?
McGee: I was looking at the University of Akron, Ohio University, Eastern Kentucky, Heidelberg and Marietta.
 
PBR: What were you looking for in a college/university?
McGee: I was looking for a college with a great reputation in Nursing and dedicated coaches and players that are willing to help others achieve success on and off the field.
 
PBR: What made Ohio State the choice?
McGee: I was looking for rich history, great academics, proven leaders that have gone through the college and top of the line facilities (academics and athletics).

PBR: Describe the relationship you, Coach Beals, Stafford, and Holick have?
McGee: I feel our relationship is starting off strong with the family and teamwork values that the coaches shared with me.  All are respectful and I look forward to playing for them.

PBR: What were your spring 2011 stats?
McGee: Wooster High School Stats - Pitcher:  Record of 8-0.  1.55 ERA, 57 strikeouts.
Batting Avg:  .333, 2 HR, 17 Singles, 5 Doubles, 11 Walks, 18 Runs, 22 RBI, 4 HBP, .448 OBP%, .486 SLG%, 15 K.

PBR: Who did you play for in the summer?
McGee: I played for the Ohio Outlaws out of Orrville, Ohio and also Northern Ohio Hurricaines out of Medina, Ohio. 

PBR: What awards and honors have you received so far?
McGee: Our Wooster High School team won Ohio Cardinal Conference (OCC) last year and I was named Pitcher of the Year (OCC).  I was also named to First Team All-Conference.

PBR: As a pitcher, what pitches do you throw and the velocities of them?
McGee: I typically throw 3 pitches;  Fast ball / 83-86 mph; Curve ball / 68-72 mph and Change-up / 70-73 mph.  I’m also developing a cutter for my 4th pitch.

PBR: As you head into your senior year what goals do you have?
McGee: I am hopeful to finish my senior year with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.  I would like to help my high school baseball team win another conference title and propel us deep into the play-offs.

PBR: What do you feel are your strengths?
McGee: I feel my strengths are that I’m a good listener.  I have a strong work ethic and dedicated to do my best on and off the field.

PBR: What areas are you concentrating on focusing on?
McGee: I will focus on my class work and obtaining my degree at The Ohio State University.  I’ll also focus on the command of my pitches and develop more than 3 pitches.

PBR: What has been the most memorable moment on the diamond for you so far?
McGee: Being named OCC Pitcher of the Year and playing in a very competitive conference.

PBR: Was going to school different after the commitment?
McGee: Yes.  It was less stressful knowing that I committed to Ohio State.  I also felt very proud of my decision and honored that I was offered a scholarship at Ohio State.
