Q and A with 2012 Wright State Commit Bradley Macciocchi

Bradley Macciocchi, a catcher and first baseman from Moeller, recently committed to Wright State University. He becomes the second commitment from Moeller’s Class of 2012. Learn more about his recruiting process and development as player.

PBR: Which schools were you considering prior to commitment to Wright State?

Macciocchi: The final three schools that I liked were Wright State, Oakland and Miami

PBR: Ultimately what were the reasons you chose the Raiders?

Macciocchi: The great baseball facilities, The coaching staff, Proximity to home, and the great business program.

PBR: What was the relationship you had with the Coach Cooper in the recruitment?

Macciocchi: Coach Cooper led the entire process.  My family and I felt very comfortable with him.  He’s focused on academics and he’s had great success.

PBR: Has Cooper and his staff gave any indications where you will be playing at the next level?

Macciocchi: They told me that I would have the opportunity to Catch as well as play first base.

PBR: What is it like playing for Moeller, a school that has produced players like Ken Griffey and Barry Larkin?

Macciocchi: The talent at Moeller is awesome.  Its great playing at a school that has so much history and so many successful  players that have played at a high level of baseball.

PBR: Going into every season is it tough, fun, motivating, or other playing for a Moeller a school that expects state titles every year?

Macciocchi: It is all of the above; it always requires hard work in the off-season to keep our program at a high level every year. It is also very motivating to know that you have that target on your back year in and year out. I always have fun playing baseball no matter what it is we are doing.

PBR: Do you feel playing in southwest Ohio and facing the competition you do in the spring prepared you to be a DI player?

Macciocchi: Yes, I think that the competition we play during the Moeller season as well as the schedule I play during the summer season has really prepared me to play at that next level.

PBR: Who do you play for over the summer and how did this season go for you? Where there areas of your game you wanted to improve on during the summer?

Macciocchi: I play for Cincinnati Baseball Club (CBC); the season went really well for me as a player as well as my team. The area of my game that I wanted to focus on improving this summer was my throwing to bases from behind the plate.

PBR: As you head into your senior year, is it good to have the commitment and recruiting process done?

Macciocchi: It is a huge weight off my shoulders to know where I am going to school next year, and I can just relax and focus on helping Moeller win a state championship, and improving as a player.

PBR: Do you feel it will be any different going to school now knowing where you’ll be going to college?

Macciocchi: It means that I will have to work twice as hard in the classroom, in the weight room and on the field.

PBR: Are you trying to talk any of your classmates into attending Wright State? What would you tell other players about WSU that they should consider?

Macciocchi: I would love for some of my teammates to come play at Wright State too. I would tell them that they have great coaching staff and great facilities. The schedule that they will play my Freshman year is also a great perk.
