Radtke, DeFilippis pick Big East schools

Tyler Radtke, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound RHP from Stevenson HS, verbally committed to Villanova University. Radtke, who’s one of the premier arms in the Class of 2011, enjoyed a stellar junior campaign for the No. 3-ranked Patriots.  As the No. 2 starter behind All-Stater Kyle Ruchim, the long and athletic Radtke posted a 9-1 record – his only loss coming against Class 4A state champion Naperville Central in the state semifinals. Behind an 86-89 mph fastball, a 12-6 curveball and a fading changeup, he tallied 66 strikeouts and walked 15 in 50 innings with a 1.68 ERA.

Kevin DeFilippis, an athletic 5-foot-10 middle infielder from Providence Catholic HS, has committed to Notre Dame. DeFilippis was a steady producer for the No. 13-ranked Celtics last spring, batting .365 with 7 doubles, 2 homers, 35 runs scored and 17 RBI. A 6.8 runner, he combined with SS Joe Houlihan (Central Michigan) to form a strong double play combination. DeFilippis marks the sixth Division I commitment in Providence’s 2011 class.
