Recruiting news from around the state

Charlie Naso, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound RHP/C from St. Laurence HS, has committed to the University of Illinois. Naso, who features a top-level arm behind as a catcher, will be going to Illinois as a pitcher only. Naso emerged as one of the class?s better power arms, showing an 86-89 mph fastball. He was a big reason why the Vikings enjoyed so much success in the spring and summer seasons. As a junior, he batted .367 with 8 doubles, 4 home runs, 27 RBI and 26 runs while going 2-0 on the mound. ?

Justin Gonzalez, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound catcher from Nazareth Academy HS, has committed to the University of Buffalo. Gonzalez marks the eighth senior commitment from Nazareth?s summer state championship squad. Blessed with a strong arm behind the plate, Gonzalez belted 6 home runs and tallied 42 RBI while batting .407. ?

Brian Sicher, a 6-foot, 180-pound catcher from St. Rita HS, has committed to Air Force Academy. A three-year varsity performer, Sicher batted .395 for the Mustangs? Class 4A state runner-up squad last spring. ?

Dan Wetzel, a 6-foot, 150-pound OF/RHP from Providence Catholic HS, has committed to St. Xavier University. Wetzel marks the seventh senior commitment from Providence?s loaded senior class.
