Lots of recruiting news from around the state, some of it new, others not-so-new. Nevertheless, several 2011 and 2012 players have picked their schools,

 

In the Class of 2012, Jake Hanson, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound catcher from Aurora Christian HS, has committed to Valparaiso. Hanson is one of the top catching prospects in the Class of 2012.

 

Also in the Class of 2012, Kyle Richardson, a 6-foot, 180-pound OF from Maine South HS, has committed to Notre Dame. Richardson recently ran a 6.67 60 at the Stevenson Showcase.

 

In the Class of 2011, there are several late commitments:

 

Bobby Sheppard, a shortstop from Oak Forest HS, has committed to the University of Illinois-Chicago. Sheppard helped lead Oak Forest to a runner-up finish in Class 3A.

 

Charlie Gandolfi, a 2B/OF from Mundelein HS, has committed to Webster University.

 

Andrew Goldstick, a middle infielder from Deerfield HS, has committed to Washington University in St. Louis.

 

Hearland Community College catcher Luke Mottashed, who was a standout at Cary-Grove HS, has signed to play at Southern Illinois University. The left-handed hitting Mottashed batted .386 with six homers and 46 RBI for the Hawks.

 

Tom Lally, an athletic INF/OF from Prairie State College, has signed with Central Michigan. Previously, Lally played at De La Salle HS.

 

Triton JC announced several commitments: INF Trey Martin (Joliet West HS), OF/RHP Jake Pygman (Lake Park HS), RHP Kevin Steger (Lake Park HS), INF Brandon Boyle (Lake Park HS), INF John Caravia (Ridgewood HS), OF Eli Perez (Leyden HS) and OF John Marino (Leyden HS).

 

Nick Lombardo, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound OF from Alton HS, has committed to SIU-Edwardsville. Lombardo hit .500 and tallied 53 runs, 41 RBI and 7 homers this spring.

 

Eric Ramirez, a 1B from St. Joseph HS, has committed to Dominican University. As a senior, Ramirez hit .358 with a .500 OBP.

 

McKendree University announced several more commitments: OF Kyle Rutledge (Normal Community HS), C Mark Munizzi (De La Salle HS), RHP Max Osnowitz (Normal Community HS), INF Jeffrey Tolliver (Salem HS), INF Pierce Borah (Mt. Vernon HS), P Matt Sax (Jones Prep HS), RHP/INF Vincent Kiefer (New Athens HS), INF Jacob Kline (Glenbard North HS), P Sean Boehnke (Collinsville HS), and INF Dalton Woolard (West Frankfort HS).
