Prep Baseball Report

Recruiting news from around the state

Ryan Scarpetta, a 2010 Prep Baseball Report first-team All-State RHP from Rockton Hononegah HS, has left Valparaiso University due to eligibility issues. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Scarpetta, who was ranked No. 13 in the Class of 2010, will be headed to Heartland C.C. Scarpetta enjoyed a phenomenal senior campaign at Rockton Hononegah, as he struck out 115 in 66.1 innings with a 0.95 ERA. His 8-3 record included three no-hitters as he helped the Indians to the NIC-10 championship. He also batted .485 with 10 homers, 16 doubles and 46 RBI.

Scarpetta wasn’t the only prospect Heartland CC landed on Tuesday. The Hawks also received a commitment from Cody Bobbitt, a left-handed hitting SS from Palatine HS. Bobbitt, who’s ranked No. 27 in the Class of 2011, is a top-level athlete. A starter since his freshman year, Bobbitt batted .445 with 4 homers as a junior last season. Heartland also received a commitment from Evan Natick, an OF from Glenbard North HS.
