Rock Falls' Junis, several others commit



Rock Falls RHP/SS Jake Junis, who’s ranked No. 6 in the state, has verbally committed to North Carolina State. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Junis has been a standout since his freshman year, when he helped Rock Falls to a second-place finish in Class 3A. Always known for his hitting prowess, Junis established himself as one of the premier pitching prospects in the state over the summer as his fastball climbed to 88-93 mph. With Junis’ verbal, all of the top 10 Illinois players in the current Class of 2011 rankings are committed. …

Quintin Richardson, a slick-fielding MIF from Simeon HS, has committed to Western Illinois University. The 5-foot-8 Richardson has been a fixture in the Wolverines’ infield since his sophomore year. As a junior last spring, Richardson batted .427 with 10 doubles and 14 stolen bases. …

Jacob Harper, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound LHP from Lincoln-Way North HS, has verbally committed to St. Joseph’s College. Harper was previously committed to South Alabama before the school changed coaching staffs. … Garret Schlecht, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound LHP/OF from Waterloo HS, has also de-committed from his verbal to South Alabama. Schlecht recently transferred from Belleville West HS to Waterloo HS. …

Matt Panek, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound LHP from Cary-Grove HS, has committed to Ohio State University. Panek emerged over the summer as one of the better left-handed prospects in the Class of 2011.
