No. 3 Nazareth Academy (2-0) swept St. Edward 10-1 and 12-1. Roadrunner 6-foot-4 junior LHP Dominick Purpura (1-0) picked up the game one victory. In the nightcap, junior LHP Ed Genko (1-0) was the winning pitcher.

No. 4 St. Rita (2-0) crushed Oak Lawn 9-0 behind senior Jack Thome. Thome, who was 4-for-4 in the Mustangs? win at Bloomington, drove in three more runs to lead the Mustangs past the Spartans. Senior LHP Ritchie Matyas (1-0) and reliever Dane Kempke combined for the shutout.

No. 5 St. Laurence (3-0) continued their assault in Orlando, crushing Ensworth High School of Nashville,12-2. Purdue-bound LHP Kyle Wood (1-0) fired a complete-game gem, allowing four hits and striking out 11. Wood also homered for the Vikings. Senior 3B Mike Chimera added three hits and three RBI.

No. 9 Mt. Carmel (1-0) blanked Riverside-Brookfield 10-0 behind a complete-game shutout from University of Illinois-bound RHP John Kravetz. Sophomore SS Jerry Houston hit a two-run homer for the Caravan.

No. 11 Harrisburg (1-0) blasted Tuscola 15-1 in five innings, behind sophomore Ryne Roper (1-0). Roper allowed two hits in his complete-game win and was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Senior 1B Isaac Beheme also had a 3-for-3 day with two RBI.

No. 14 Cary-Grove (1-0) routed Ottawa 8-1 in the Trojans? season opener. Senior Nick Taylor drove home three Trojan runs and senior SS Michael Vilardo added a pair of RBI to lead the C-G attack. Ohio State-bound LHP Matt Panek (1-0) struck out four to pick up the win on the mound.

No. 23 Streamwood (1-0) defeated Oswego East 4-1 behind Villanova-bound LHP Josh Harris. Harris allowed an unearned run and two hits, striking out a dozen Wolves. Judson-recruit RHP Blake Hunter finished off Oswego East in the seventh, striking out three to pick up the save. Senior 2B Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle went deep for his first home run of the season.

No. 31 Normal West (2-0) opened the 2011 season in style for head coach Chris Hawkins, defeating Moline 4-2 and Pekin 6-3 in the Galesburg Streak Opening Weekend Tourney. Wildcat sophomore catcher Adam McGinnis had three hits to lead the Wildcats in game one against Moline.

McGinnis had a pair of hits, including a  two-run double against Pekin. Game two winning pitcher, senior RHP Adam Seifert (1-0), doubled home a run to help his own cause. Wildcat  senior RHP Kyle Vaughn (1-0), a nine-game winner in 2010, picked up  the win in game one, versus Moline.

No. 33 Simeon (3-0) crushed Thornwood 21-1 in five innings behind junior LHP
Shane Brown (2-0). Brown fired three no-hit innings, striking out seven Thornwood (0-2) batsmen. Brown launched a two-run bomb among his two hits and had four ribbies. Sophomore Corey Ray drove home five with a perfect 4-for-4 day, including a bases-clearing triple. Western Illinois-bound Quintin Richardson added a pair of hits and RBI. Freshman LHP Darius Day completed the combined no-hitter with two no-hit innings and five strike outs. Day also had a pair of hits.

No. 44 Prairie Ridge (0-1) committed six errors and were stunned 10-2 by Evanston in the Wolves? season-opener Saturday. Evanston junior Jordan Crawford (1-0) allowed an unearned run and struck out four to pick up the win. Senior Kenny Horwat had three hits and drove in two runs to lead the Wildkit attack.

Wolves sophomore OF Jordan Getzleman had three hits and drove in the lone Wolves tallies.

No. 49 Lincoln-Way North defeated No. 28 Brother Rice 4-2 in a season opener of Power 50 teams. Head Coach Joe Scarbeck went to his bench and received a clutch pinch-hit, two-run single from Carter Bialka to break up a 2-2 tie in the sixth.

Junior Jack Troika (2-for-4, R, RBI) led the Phoenix attack. St.Joseph?s College-bound 6-foot-4 LHP Jake Harper started the game on the mound and fired four scoreless innings allowing two hits and struck out nine Crusader hitters. Joe Cairo (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for L-W North.

Chicago Christian (4-0) pounded Westmont 11-1 in six innings behind senior RF Jeremy Kamp. Kamp went 4-for-4, scoring three times and driving home four runs for the Knights. Senior Brian Deckings (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Knights, striking out seven.

Lincoln-Way Central (2-1) split a doubleheader at Danville, losing the first game 11-4 and bouncing back to take the nightcap 9-4. The Knights were led in game two by Lucas Jones, who doubled three times and plated a pair of runs in the victory.

In game one, Danville (1-1) was led by Justin March, who blasted a monster grand-slam and drove in five Viking runs. Viking Zack Thomas (1-0) fired a complete-game masterpiece, striking out 11.

Crystal Lake South (3-0) whipped Richmond-Burton 5-1 behind junior RHP Nick Martin. Martin allowed jut two hits and struck out five in his six-inning stint. Martin helped himself with an RBI double. Battery-mate junior C Dom Winiecki, doubled home a pair of Gator runs, to lead the attack.

Lincoln-Way West (2-0) swept Bremen 7-3 and 8-2. The Warriors were led by Dan Fifer, who had two hits, including his first homer of the season, in game one. In game two, Fifer (1-0) allowed one run in his victorious six-inning stint. Robert Hubbard doubled and tripled in the first game victory. Mike Lager hammered his first round-tripper in the game two win. In game one, Nick Mickoff (1-0) fired three scoreless innings on the mound to pick up the win.

For Aurora Christian (2-0) the Eagles trip to Hinckley-Big Rock (0-2) was a rousing success. The Eagles hammered the Royals, 15-0 and 13-1, both games were five innings. The heroes were aplenty on Saturday. Juniors Bobby Kuntzendorf (1-0) and junior Mitch Holtz (1-0) picked up the wins on the mound. In game one, Kuntzendorf fired three no-hit innings, striking out eight. Senior Brent Minta finished up with two innings of one-hit relief fanning four. In game two, Holtz struck out 10 in his four inning stint.

Holtz, had a pair of hits and drove in five to lead the Eagle attack in game one. Senior Austin Penn added a pair of hits and 3 RBI.

In the nightcap, junior Kenny McCracken, had two hits, including a triple and drove in four runs. Red-hot Minta, wrapped up a 4-for-6 afternoon with a pair of hits and four RBI.

Herscher (2-0) swept Crete-Monee by identical 10-0 scores. The Tigers junior Jordan Ruckman (1-0) picked up the win in game one, striking out six and added a three-run homer.

Troy-Triad (1-0) defeated Taylorville 13-4 in the Knights? opener in Troy. Junior second baseman Ty Lewis had three hits, including two doubles, to lead the Triad attack. Senior Rich Dimock (1-0) fired two scoreless innings to pick up the win on the mound.

Anna-Jonesboro (1-0) defeated Marion 1-0 behind a one-hitter from junior RHP
Travis Smith. Parkland College-recruit Cody Livesay had a pair of hits and drove in the lone Wildcat run in the first inning. Smith did the rest in the Wildcat 2011 opener.
