The defending Class 4A state champions No. 32 Naperville Central (1-0) opened its 2011 season in style with a 4-1 frigid win over Fremd in Naperville. Belmont-bound LHP Dan Ludwig and junior RHP Ian Leweandowski combined to handcuff Fremd (0-1).

Ludwig fired four no-hit innings, fanning five, and allowing an unearned run,  before giving way to Lewandowski in the fifth. Lewandowski (1-0) allowed three hits in his three-innings of relief.

As the Redhawks did in their trademark championship 2010 season, they scored three times in the fifth and added another run in the sixth to erase a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Jimmy Nashert drove in the game-winner in the three-run fifth with a sac-fly.

The win was the 19th consecutive for Naperville Central and the 690th in the career of venerable Naperville Central head coach Bill Seiple, who will retire at the end of the season.

Elgin Larkin (2-1) smashed St. Edward 10-1 in Elgin on Saturday. The Royals
were led by senior 3B Miguel Villafone who had two hits and two RBI. Junior Drew Shore went 3-for-3 with an RBI and senior Trevor Whitehead had two hits and stole three bases for the Royals. Junior RHP Austin Royce picked up the win on the mound for Larkin.

Moline (5-2) crushed Machesney Park Harlem 9-1 and tournament-host Limestone 15-2 in Bartonville on Saturday. Against Harlem, Seth Fuller improved to 2-0 on the mound and homered. Against the host Rockets, Maroon Tim Wages went deep twice and drove in five runs as the Maroons concluded their seven games in seven days gauntlet to open 2011.

Pontiac (3-1) swept Champaign Central 11-0 in five innings, and outslugged Central 15-12 in the nightcap. In game one, Indian senior LHP Mason Elias (2-0) allowed one hit and fanned 11. Senior Matt Peterson went 3-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBI.

In the nightcap, sophomore 3B Jason Priest and junior Nick Leach each drove home three Indian runs. Senior Adam Casson (1-0) shut down the Maroons over the last four innings, striking out seven to pick up the win on the mound.

Charleston  (5-0; 2-0) swept Robinson 8-5 and 24-9 in the Trojans Apollo Conference opening twin-bill. Trojan Joe Fricke was 7-for-7 in the double-header
and picked up the win on the mound in game one.
