Soria earns Porsche Exchange Player of the Week

While most teams and players were sidelined for most of last week because of the inclement weather, St. Rita junior shortstop/catcher Zach Soria was enjoying an incredible stretch of baseball. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Soria, who?s one of the most unheralded talents in the Class of 2012, has been No. 6 St. Rita?s catalyst all season long.

But last week Soria really put on an impressive show. During four St. Rita victories, Soria went 7-for-9 with six walks, giving him an .867 on-base percentage for the week. Of those seven hits, five went for extra bases: three doubles, one triple and one homer. Soria also stole seven bases in seven attempts ? including four in a game ? scored 12 runs and drove in six.

Defensively, Soria was equally as impressive. Splitting equal time at shortstop and catcher, Soria did not commit an error (he has no errors all season, in fact), and recorded 17 putouts and 10 assists.

?He?s definitely been our most steady guy,? said St. Rita coach Mike Zunica. ?In a balanced attack, he?s stood out the most. He?s a great teammate and an incredibly unselfish player. He has a real blue-collar approach; he?s locked in for all seven innings.?

Locked in, indeed. Through 17 games, Soria is batting .526 (23-for-44) and has scored an amazing 30 runs. He has also stolen 13 of 14 bases, to go along with 16 RBI, nine doubles, 2 homers and one triple.

The Porsche Exchange salutes Zach Soria for his hard work and success.
