Public League Semifinals @ UIC

Simeon (25-3) and Harlan (23-7) advanced to today?s 3 p.m. Chicago Public League Championship Game at U.S. Cellular Field. Simeon ousted Von Steuben 7-4 and Harlan hung on to defeat Clemente 8-6.

 

Simeon 7, Von Steuben 4

Simeon (25-3) was led by the strong left arm of junior Shane Brown (9-1). The hard-throwing junior lefty fired a two-hitter at the Panthers and struck out 15. Two of the four runs he allowed were earned.

 

Wolverine Elbert Dunnigan had the big hit for the Wolverines when he tripled home a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. WIU-bound SS Quintin Richardson had two hits and singled home a Wolverine run in the seventh.

 

Von Steuben (22-9) was led by hot-hitting senior Jose Pagan, who singled home a Panther run in the fifth.

 

Harlan 8, Clemente 6

Harlan opened up an 8-3 lead on the Wildcats after four innings and hung on for an 8-6 win.  Falcon John A. Logan recruit Dontrell Rush led the Falcons with a pair of hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Andre Hogan Jr. continued to hit well as he plated a Falcon run in the fourth with a single.

 

Clemente (21-6) was led by the Yerbis Arias, who had three hits, including a two-run bomb for the ?Cats.

 

The PBR?s Sean Duncan will be at the home of the Chicago White Sox for all of the CPS Championship Game action.

 

Nonconference

No. 9 St. Rita (28-6) defeated Marist (15-19) in an extra-inning thriller on Senior Day at 7740 S. Western Avenue. Mustang junior C Zach Soria singled home sophomore Connor McLain in the bottom of the ninth, as the 9th ranked Mustangs prevailed 3-2.

 

McLain, led off the ninth with a walk, stole second and went to third as the throw sailed into centerfield and danced home with the game-winner as Soria?s shot went over the Redhawks centerfielders head.

 

Mustang junior 3B Stefano Belmonte tied the game with two out in the bottom of the seventh when the hard-hitting junior 3B launched a bomb over the left field fence.
