Top Fastballs in the Class of 2011

1. Christian Montgomery -- RHP - Lawrence Central HS - 6-2,  240

Christian has been lighting up radar guns since he was a young teenager.   Montgomery had been rumored to throw 90 as early as the age of 13, and was clocked doing so his freshman year at LC. He has continued to increase his velocity, and even touched 97 several times this past summer for Team USA. Montgomery?s motion and delivery are clean and effortless. Can he touch 100 this year?  Uncommitted.

2. Dillon Peters -- LHP - Cathedral HS - 5- 11, 180

You could easily debate Peters being in the number one spot because he is such as an exceptional talent. He has been clocked as high as 94, and while it may not be 98 like Montgomery, his 94 is explosive. Peters? is the most feared pitcher in the state of Indiana, and quite possibly the most dominant in the Mid-West.  He has the talent and stats to be regarded as the best LHP to ever pitch in the state of Indiana. Committed to Texas

3. Jared Ruxer -- RHP, Lawrence Central HS - 6-2, 190

Ruxer completes what is likely the best one-two starting combination in the state. He has been clocked as high as 93.  Like Peters, Ruxer will make a case as the best all-around pitcher in the state. He has great command and movement with all of his pitches. Committed to Louisville

4. Jerrick Suiter -- RHP - Valparaiso HS - 6-4, 210

Suiter could very well move up this list during the spring. He is very athletic, and pitching may actually be his third best position.  Even though he is not 100 percent focused on pitching as the three ranked before him are, make no mistake, at  6-4  and a fastball touching 93, he will strike fear in most of the hitters  he faces this year. Committed to Texas Christian.

5. Jared Miller--- LHP - Avon HS - 6-4, 220

Miller is 6-4 and left-handed with tons of potential.   He is a two-sport athlete with a high academic background, and happens to throw 89. Look for Miller to have a very successful high school season on the mound. Committed to Vanderbilt.

6. AJ Reed - LHP - Terre Haute South HS - 6-4, 230

Reed is a big, strong athletic left handed pitcher. His measurements alone are enough to pique scouts' interest. Then you add in his 88 mph fastball, and you have a highly sought after prospect. Look for Reed to continue racking up his strikeouts total in 2011. Committed to Kentucky.

7. Matt Pletzke -- RHP - Guerin HS - 6-3, 210

Pletzke is arguably the biggest surprise on the list. He was consistently in the mid-80s over the summer, topping out at 86.  However, this fall Pletzke took it to another level by touching 90 multiple times.  He is a strong kid with great build, and has tons of potential. Committed to Ball State

8. Kyle Rupe -- RHP - Perry Meridian HS - 6-1, 190

Rupe has been considered a phenom since he got to Perry Meridian in 2007. As a freshman he earned the No. 1 starting job as a pitcher, and was also the starting  shortstop when not pitching.  Rupe has electric stuff with a fastball reaching as high as 89.  Committed to Indiana State

9. Nick Smith - RHP - New Palestine HS - 6-1, 180

Smith is a lanky right-hander who has been clocked as high as 91 mph. He has not been as dominant as some of the others on the list, but make no mistake, he is a pitcher with a lot of upside.  He has continued to improve and develop his skills over the past year, so look for him to have a successful senior season. Committed to Western Illinois

10. Scott Baker -- RHP - Manchester HS - 6-4, 190

Baker is your prototypical power pitcher.  He is 6 4, with broad shoulders and a quick arm, topping out at 89.  Baker is a raw talent but continues to develop with each outing. Look for Baker to make a big leap during his senior season. Committed to Ball State
