No. 1 Providence (2-0) blanked Joliet Central 13-0 behind Indiana University-bound senior Sam Travis. Travis went 4-for-4 with his second homer of the year, doubled and drove in five runs. Senior Nick Gould (1-0) fired five shutout innings for the win in this 10-run rule whitewash.The Celtics will host No. 8 Lemont (2-0), weather permitting, today in New Lenox, in the PBR Game of the Day.

No. 4  St. Rita (4-0) romped past Whitney Young 15-2 behind Air Force Academy-bound senior C Brian Sicher. The future Falcon receiver had a pair of hits and drove in three Mustang runs. Junior SS Zach Soria chipped in with a pair of RBI and senior Jake Thome continued his hot hitting with an RBI double. Junior LHP Scott Thomas (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the unbeaten Mustangs.

No. 10 Glenwood (1-0; 1-0) routed Springfield 12-1 in six innings behind Louisiana Tech-bound senior RHP Phil Maton. Maton (1-0) allowed one hit and struck out five in his complete-game victory. Maton also used his bat, hammering a two-run homer and added a double, in the defending Class 3A champs? opener.

Titan senior DH Zack Joos hit a three-run bomb and drove home four  runs. Senior Jake Lance went deep with two Titans aboard, and junior Jake Mick drove home a pair for Glenwood.

No. 11 Harrisburg (2-0) hammered Carterville 10-3 in a S. Illinois River-River crossover in Harrisburg. John A. Logan College recruit senior RHP/3B Keelin Rasch used his powerful bat to lead the Bulldogs to victory. Rasch launched a grand slam to get the ?Dogs started, among his three hits and pitched three-plus innings to pick up the win.

Senior LHP Isaac Behme relieved Rasch in the fourth and shut down the Lions the rest of the way for the save. Behme added a couple of hits and an RBI. Senior Logan Leverett hammered a solo blast for the ?Dogs. Sophomore Ryne Roper chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI. Senior Caleb Thompson had a two-hit afternoon.

No. 16 O?Fallon (4-1) outslugged Columbia 12-8. Panther senior 1B Cody Seeburger had two hits, including his first homer of 2011, and drove in three runs. Austin Peay-bound Matt Meadows scored three runs in his perfect 2-for-2 day with an RBI. Junior RHP Sam Hopkins (2-0) fired two no-hit innings, striking out four to pick up the win.

No. 25 Edwardsville (1-0) defeated Greenville 3-1 in the Tigers opener at Tom Pile Field. Senior OF Eddie Akers had two hits and an RBI. Sophomore Drew Curtis had a perfect 2-for-2 day with a walk and a run scored for the Tigers. Junior Devin Briehan (1-0) struck out three in his two hitless inning stint for the win.

Moline (3-1) ambushed No. 31 Normal West 10-2 behind Maroon Seth Fuller. Fuller had a pair of hits, including a grand slam and drove in five Maroon runs. Normal West (2-1) was led by sophomore SS Matthew James, who homered and had three hits for the Wildcats.

Yorkville (1-0) won their season opener 5-0 over Sandwich behind 6-foot-4 Bradley University-bound RHP Stephen Toma. Toma and reliever Alex King combined for a four-hit shutout for the Foxes.

Crystal Lake South (2-0) defeated Marengo 6-3. Junior C Dom Winecki once again provided the offense for the victorious Gators. Winecki had a pair of hits and drove in three runs. 6-foot-4 senior Robbie Lemke (1-0) picked up the win on the mound and 6-foot-3, 230 pound junior Zack Geib fired two shutout innings of relief, striking out three, to earn the save.

Washington (3-0) blasted Stanford Olympia 10-0 in six innings. Junior Isaac Fisher went deep for the Panthers and had three RBI. Junior RHP Jeremy Piers (1-0) struck out three and picked up the win. Stanford Olympia falls to 0-2.

Southern Illinois University-bound RHP Sam Coonrod fired a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 11 as Carrollton (1-0) whipped up on West Central 18-1. Coonrad, went 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI.

Benton (4-0) slammed Seneca 10-0 in five innings behind Cody Smith. Smith
was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. Mason Childers (1-0) threw the complete-game shutout.

Troy-Triad (2-0) outlasted Mt. Vernon 17-16 in Troy on Tuesday. The Knights scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to give Mt. Vernon (4-1) their first defeat of the year. Junior Ty Lewis homered twice and drove in six runs for the Knights. Sophomore Cody Massey had three hits and four RBI and junior Andrew Range homered to lead Troy-Triad to victory.

Mt. Vernon (4-1) was led by Blake Deaton, who had a 4-for-6 afternoon with a homer and six RBI.
