Uncommitted Prospect Watch: LHP/OF Luke Burch from Hiland

Luke Burch, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound prospect from Hiland High School, is one of the state’s top uncommitted pitchers and outfielders in the Class of 2012.

As a junior, he hit .472 with 31 runs, 18 RBIs, and a .512 on base percentage.

On the mound, he went 4-1 with a 1.71 WHIP and a 3.29 ERA.

While he was originally hearing from several Division I schools during the summer, he says, “Right now, I have been in contact with Mercyhurst, Seton Hill, Marietta, Heidelberg, and the College of Wooster.”

As he makes his final choice, Burch notes, “It’s going to come down to the strength of the program, great academic opportunities, and a chance to compete to play early.”

For Burch, the question is: what position will he compete at?

The talented two-way prospect excels in the outfield and on the mound.

As a position player, he has recorded a 6.83 60-yard dash. In addition, he has flashed velocity between 84-86 mph from the outfield.

On the mound, he features an 80-84 mph fastball and a curveball that fluctuates between 66-71 mph.

When evaluating his game, Burch says, “I probably take the most pride in my speed, and being able to beat out infield singles to the right side. I have been timed at sub-4 seconds running to first base frequently.”
