Corey Masters, a 6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed pitcher from North Central High School, doesn’t hail from one of the larger high schools in the state.

As a result, the tall and lanky prospect has gone under the radar.

However, in a recent showing, Masters showed potential for the next level with an 86-88 mph fastball along with a developing curveball and changeup.

Masters, who hales from the northwest part of Ohio, has been a regular attendee at Defiance Coach Tom Held’s throwing program.

Masters notes, “This has been a big asset in my career and development.”

With his senior year upon him, Masters is beginning to talk with college programs.

“I’ve actually just recently started the recruiting process, but I hope to commit and sign sometime this fall.”

His list of interested features a wide variety of programs, including Cedarville, Akron, Sienna Heights, Marietta, and Urbana.

As he begins to narrow down his list, Masters has clear expectations about his future college choice.

“I am looking for a school where I could go play baseball and get a good education.  I would prefer a Christian university or college, but ultimately anywhere I could play baseball, get a good education, and most importantly a school where I could live comfortably and enjoy my college years at.”

This past spring, Masters pitched in 9 games. Over 52 and 1/3 innings, he compiled a 3.08 ERA, a 1.53 WHIP, struck out 68 batters, and walked 34.
