Under Armour All-American Game set for Saturday

Thirty-six of the best high school seniors will be on display Saturday, Aug. 14 at Wrigley Field for the Under Armour All-America Game. The home run derby begins at 11 a.m., followed by the game at 1:05 p.m.

Downers Grove South RHP Nick Burdi, who’s the No. 1-ranked Class of 2011 prospect in the state, will represent Illinois in the third-annual All-America Game, which will be televised on the MLB Network. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Burdi earned first-team All-State honors as a junior after he posted a 9-0 record with a 1.03 ERA. Last year, Brother Rice’s Kevin Koziol represented Illinois.

The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game has become the premier event in the sport. In both the 2009 and 2010 amateur player drafts, a total of 58 of the 72 players who participated in the 2008 and 2009 Under Armour All-America Games were selected in the draft.  Of the 2009 Under Armour All-Americans, five players were drafted in the first round.

Tickets are still available for the game.
