Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Michael Ilacqua (University School)

By Travis Cox

Michael Ilacqua, 6-foot, 185-pound corner infielder from University High School in Cleveland, is garnering attention from numerous schools.

The list of schools is continuing to grow with the names of College of Wooster, Case Western Reserve University, Washington & Jefferson College, Heidelberg University, Marietta College, Adrian College and Kenyon College.

He is receiving all of this attention even though his high school only played 17 games last spring due to the crazy Ohio wet weather.  In the shortened season, Ilacqua still put up some impressive numbers: 464 BA to go along with a .554 OBP, 15 runs scored, 21 RBIs and four triples.

Michael, also a honor student says “The college I decide to go to is going to be a good fit for me in terms of both academics and athletics.”

He continues, “More important, though, is the academic piece to my decision. Needless to say my baseball career is eventually going to come to an end, so I want a good education to fall back on.”

Ilacqua believes his biggest strength is his versatility.  He currently plays shortstop for his high school, but he is extremely comfortable playing anywhere in the infield or in the corner outfield positions.

With his 6.85 60-yard dash, he will continue to be a hot commodity for many college coaches.

This summer he will play for Steve's Sports Blue Sox.
