Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Taylor Huebner (Piqua)

Fresh off his appearance at the PBR Miami Valley Open ID showcase, Piqua’s Taylor Huebner finds himself navigating through the recruiting process.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound switch-hitting infielder stood out as one of the top prospect’s at the event.

“Anytime you can get on the baseball field and showcase your skills and be evaluated by college and professional scouts is a huge step in the college recruiting process,” he says.

Huebner, who likely projects as a third baseman at the collegiate level, showed good lateral movement and attacked the baseball while throwing 78 mph across the infield. Also, he registered a time of 7.08 in the 60-yard dash.

During batting practice, he demonstrated the ability to hit effectively from both sides of the plate. He uses an open, athletic stance (from both sides) that generates line drives and shows pull tendencies.

Looking back on the event, he notes, “It was great to compete with other high school players to see where I stacked up against the best. I felt that my strengths as a player are my range, switch-hitting abilities, and arm strength.”

Now, as he turns his attention to recruiting, Huebner is mostly hearing from local programs including Ashland, Findlay, Ohio Wesleyan, Sinclair Community College, and University of Northwestern Ohio.

“I am in the process of doing my homework on schools that fit me academically and how I could possibly fit into their baseball program,” he says.

While baseball is important, he says, “I would like to pursue a career in criminal justice, so it is important to me to find a school that offers the major.”

Last spring, Huebner hit .349 and lead Piqua with 18 RBI.

Last summer, Huebner played for Piqua Post 184, who qualified for the State American Legion tournament. During the event, he hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning to win a game.

Next summer, Huebner will be joining the 18U Dayton Classics next summer.
