Updated Class of 2011 player rankings

Since the start of the spring season through the hectic summer showcase tour, we’ve seen a dizzying amount of baseball. With the graduation of the senior class, the Class of 2011 now comes into sharp focus. This class has proven to be surprisingly deep in areas (catching and left-handed pitching) and somewhat disappointing in others (big power bats and middle infielders).

We rank the top 150 prospects in the state – a difficult process considering all the talented players in Illinois. Downers Grove South RHP Nick Burdi once again heads the class, followed by New Trier OF Charlie Tilson, Oak Forest slugger Tim Barry, Ottawa Marquette RHP Joe Ceja, Murphysboro LHP Dylan Craig, Rock Falls RHP/SS Jake Junis, Teotopolis LHP Derek Thompson, St. Rita LHP/1B Joe Filomeno, St. Charles East LHP Wes Benjamin, Mount Carmel 1B/LHP Jeff Boehm and Plainfield North RHP Sean Renzi.

There were many players who soared up the list over the last two months. Some of the biggest risers include: Lemont RHP Josh Ferry, Hersey RHP Joe Perricone, Murphysboro LHP Dylan Craig, Providence RHP Brandon Magallones, Lake Forest SS Chris Godinez, Rockford Boylan C Mark Garton, Teutopolis C Derek Repking, O’Fallon C Austin Bossart, Breese Central LHP Bryant Holtmann, Plainfield North C Joey Pendolino, and Stevenson OF Michael Martin to name a few.
