Class 2A Benedictine University Supersectional

 

Class 2A Sectional Semifinals

Benedictine University

Aurora Christian (29-6) dispatched Chicago Latin 14-1 in five innings behind a five-inning no-no from Eagle junior Mitch Holtz (7-4). Holtz walked three and allowed one unearned run but did not allow a Roman batter a hit. Holtz fanned nine to lead the Eagles to the Benedictine Sectional Final Saturday at 11.

 

Eagle junior Jake Hansen doubled twice and plated five Eagle runs. Junior Bobby Kuntzendorf had a double and a single and 3 Eagle RBI. Senior Nick Chamberlain tripled home a pair and junior Steve Clapp chipped in with three singles and three runs scored. 

 

In Wednesday?s second semifinal, Westminster Christian (25-7) led Walther Lutheran 3-1 after one inning of play. Mother Nature invaded Lisle with bombs of her own and forced a suspension of the game. The Warriors and the Broncos will resume at 4:30 on Thursday.

 

Reed-Custer Sectional

Prairie Central (16-11) stunned Chicago Christian 3-2 in 11 innings. Hawk junior C Mitch Wessels drove in his battery-mate, winning pitcher junior Brad Moody, with a bases-loaded single and sent the large Fairbury contingent into orbit.

 

For Wessels, who drove home all three Hawk runs, it was his second hit of the game. Chicago Christian (30-8) was led by Knight junior CF John Lemmenes, who homered and singled in the two Knight runs, among his three hits.

 

Herscher (29-4) will play Wilmington at 4 on Thursday, with the winner meeting Prairie Central for the Sectional Championship at high noon on Saturday.

 

The winners of the two sectionals will meet at 7 on Memorial Day evening, at Benedictine University in Lisle, for the Supersectional championship and a trip to Peoria on June 3.

 

Class 3A Regional Semifinals

Hampshire

Suburban Christian Blue champ Marmion (19-7) slipped past Crystal Lake Central 1-0 in eight exciting innings. Spartan senior Travis Siwiec singled home the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth. Cadet 6-foot-4 Tyler Friel and 6-foot-5 Tim Tarter (8-0) combined to blank the Tigers,

 

Nazareth

ESCC champ No. 13 Nazareth (30-5) defeated Chicago Noble Street Charter 11-0 in five innings. Roadrunner Brian Orrick (1-0) fired a one-hitter at the Golden Tigers.

 

Class 4A Regional Semifinals

Barrington

No. 25 Mundelein (27-6) hammered Lake Zurich 9-1 behind Valparaiso University-bound Ben Mahar (8-1). Mahar fired a six-hitter at the Bears. Lake Zurich bows out at 16-17.

 

Geneva

St. Charles East (26-10) smashed Glenbard East 10-2 behind University of Kansas-bound LHP Wes Benjamin (9-1). Benjamin went the distance against the Rams to pick up his ninth win of the season. Sophomores Joe Hoscheit and Brian Sobieski led the Fighting Saints attack. Hoscheit had two hits had a pa r of RBI and Sobieski went deep for STC East.

 

Lockport

Neuqua Valley (24-10) defeated rival Waubonsie Valley 9-6. Wildcat junior Tanner Geisel led the Wildcat attack with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Senior Ryan O? Keefe homered with a man on. Waubonsie Valley, the Upstate 8 Conference Valley champ, bow out at 20-13.

 

Normal West

Normal West (29-7) blasted Bradley-Bourbonnais 8-0 in four and a half innings in a game called because of rain. Wildcat sophomore RHP Matt James (7-1) blanked the Boilermakers for his seventh win of the season. IWU-bound Trey Rogers hammered a three-run homer to give the super-soph James all the run support he would need.

 

O?Fallon

No. 10 O?Fallon (31-5) defeated East St. Louis 10-0 in four and a half innings.

 

Plainfield South

No. 4 Plainfield North (30-2) defeated Naperville North 9-2 behind senior RHP Pat Cashman (6-0). Cashman fired an eight-hitter with 10Ks at the young Huskies. Central Michigan University-bound Sean Renzi drove home three Tiger runs. Tiger 2B Caleb Kissel had two hits and two RBI for the Southwest Prairie champs.

 

Shepard

Lincoln-Way East (22-10) defeated the hosts Shepard 7-0 behind a three-hit gem by junior RHP Brian Bollman (4-0). Griffin senior Dan Huizenga hammered a grand slam and junior C Jake Hickey blasted a solo shot to lead the Griffin attack.

 

St. Laurence

No. 3 St. Laurence (28-6) defeated Stagg 8-2 in Burbank on Wednesday.

 

St. Ignatius

No. 7 Mt. Carmel (28-7) romped past Curie 17-0 in five innings behind junior 1B Sam Kint and University of Kentucky-bound Jeff Boehm. Kint had three more hits and drove in four Caravan runs. Boehm chipped in with three RBI. Caravan sophomore Jeremy Kravetz fired four shutout innings for MC to pick up the win on the mound.

 

St. Rita

St. Rita (29-6) survived Brooks 3-1 behind junior LHP Scott Thomas (10-2). Thomas fired a four-hitter at the Eagles with 11 strikeouts for the Mustangs. Mustang junior C Zach Soria broke up a 1-1 tie in the fifth with a clutch two-run single to save St. Rita.
