Colton Hartman: LHP/OF, (2023) Lebanon, OH. Louisville Commit, 6-foot-3, 205-pound. At the plate, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 94 mph. (67.0 mph bat speed average). (20.5 mph hand speed average). Starts in an athletic quiet stance with a controlled load, then uses a small leg kick. Has present bat speed, upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Solid in the outfield, he used momentum and arm strength to record throws up to 94 mph; had a clean exchange, rhythmic footwork, and soft hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Had a loose arm action and a high ¾ slot. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.99. On the mound, showing quick arm speed he used a clean arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort. Threw his fastball 93-95 mph. Showed slight running action. (Max spin 2332; Avg 2248). Had slurvey action on his 1/7 curveball (77-78). He has fading action on his changeup (84-85).

Begins in a tall balanced stance with a smooth quick load, then uses a small leg kick. Bat speed is above average and uses a level swing plane. Advanced on the mound, used a loose arm action with a ¾ arm angle while showing electric arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses some effort. Athletic balance point. Changeup (80-81 mph).Threw his fastball 86-89 mph; showed running action and arm side command. Throws a 1/7 curveball (73-76) that has plus action.

Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then uses a small leg kick. Bat speed is quick, has an upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Solid throwing from the outfield, he displayed power in his arm with throws up to 91 mph;had soft hands, a clean exchange, and athletic footwork. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Had a high ¾ slot with a quick arm action. Recorded a 60 time of 7.19 at the event. Advanced on the mound, had quick arm speed and a high ¾ arm angle. Slow-tempo type pitcher who uses easy effort. Curveball (69-74 mph), changeup (77-79 mph).Sat with his fastball at 87-89 mph. 

Scouting Notes: Very smoother actions on the mound. Arm works with fastball up to 83 mph. Only going to get better as he continues to twitch up. Very impressive performance on both sides of the ball.
Fastball: 82-83mph.

Hit: Left-handed hitter that starts in an upright setup. Goes with a double tap load down low with smooth back load to hands. Aggressive swinger whose path travels on a level path to contact. Ball jumps. Laced line drives around the yard in BP. Hit one off the scoreboard in the left-center in his second round. Big boy pop.
Power: Gap pop.
Offensive Projection: Run producer ceiling.
Max BP Exit Velocity: 93 mph
Max BP Distance: 318 ft
Field: Smooth actions in the outfield, good tempo, ball skills are ahead of the curve.
Throw: Loose arm with present jump and much more to come.
Defensive Projection: Corner Outfield.

2/9/20 Pitching Delivery Notes: Hartman uses a high leg kick and a methodical tempo and rhythm as he moves down the mound. He throws from a ¾ arm slot and has a fairly clean arm action. Doesn’t seem to presently get much out of his lower half but the arm works. Fastball: The fastball was 79-81 mph and mostly true through the zone. Curveball: His breaking ball was 65-67 mph and showed curveball shape and spin. Changeup: The changeup was 64-65 mph. Pitchability: Pretty good feel for his stuff. Shows good arm speed on all pitches. Will benefit from adding strength in his lower half to make his delivery a bit more dynamic. 2/9/20 Position Player Hit: Hartman used a mini leg kick to initiate his load and struggled at times with getting his front foot down on time. He showed decent bat to ball ability with a slightly uphill approach at times. Power: 82 mph exit velocity. Offensive Projection: Should be able to develop into a gap to gap guy at the high school level. Field: In the outfield he showed average feet and instincts and didn’t play through the ball particularly well. Throw: 77 mph from the outfield. Defensive Projection: Corner OF

Swing Mechanics: Left-handed hitter that starts in a balanced stance. Uses athletic movements that create energy.
Hit: Has all the tools to hit. Physical kid with bat speed and feel for contact. Can get a bit too uphill at times which causes inconsistencies in ball flight but when he approaches the ball balanced it really flies.
Power: Ball jumps, especially to pull side. Easy gap pop.
Offensive Projection: Multiple Roles.
Field: In the outfield he uses fluid, efficient footwork in his approach. Ball skills are there and he maintains rhythm for the most part through sequence.
Throw: Arm is an above average tool and projects for much more strength down the road. Defensive Projection: Corner OF.

Body Type: 5-foot-11, 165-pound average frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Smooth actions on the mound. Delivery works well. Ball comes out easy and shows all the signs of more velocity to come down the road. Crossfire type lefty.
Fastball: 74-75 mph. Late life through the zone. Average spin rate guy with mid 90s efficiency.
Curveball: 57-60 mph. 1/7 shaped breaking ball with a nice combination of bite and depth.
Pitchability: A bit more erratic than we’ve seen him in the past.

Body Type: 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Clean, efficient delivery with a loose arm. Everything works well. Should see easy velo increases as physical maturation takes its course.
Fastball: 76-78 mph. Moved the pitch around the zone with ease.
Curveball: 1/7 sweeping breaking ball with big actions. Very comfortable with the offering that was used as his out pitch.
Pitchability: Advanced for his class.
Additional Comments: Diced throughout his outing, striking out all 5 batters he faced. Impressive demeanor out there for such a young prospect. Going to be a good one down the road.

Body Type: 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame.
Swing Mechanics: Smooth, athletic load with a ton of feel for movements.
Hit: Athletic stroke with much more physicality than a typical ‘23. Ball jumps off barrel and he can use the entire field. Intriguing hit tool to follow.
Power: Line drive guy with flashes of gap abilities.
Offensive Projection: Multiple Roles.
Run: 5.09 H-1st. 
Field: Looks the part in the outfield. Plays with consistent rhythm and ball skills are there.
Throw: Loose arm with above average strength.
Defensive Projection: Corner outfield.

Body Type: 5-foot-10 , 150-pound average athletic build.   

Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Has advanced mechanics on the mound and looks comfortable. Good tempo and understands his body on the mound. He has a fluid high leg kick delivery and throws from a loose ¾ arm slot.

Fastball: 73-76 mph. FB is explosive out of his hands and has a lot of run away from RHH

Curveball: 61-64. CB is a sweeper with 2/7 break and lots of depth.

Changeup: 56-60 mph. Developing pitch.

Pitchability: Overall, he has advanced mechanics and command for his age. Will add more velocity as he matures, can throw all pitches for strikes.
Role: Starter/Reliever.

Body Type: 5-foot-10 , 150-pound average athletic build.   

Swing Mechanics: Lefty bat that starts in a crouched setup. Hands stay quiet during leg kick load.

Hit: Smooth swing with feel for the barrel. Stays inside the baseball well, working inside a middle-away approach.

Power: 76 mph exit velocity. Line drive guy with much more to come.

Offensive Projection: TBD.

Run: 4.68 H-1st.

Field: Smooth actions. Plays under control to the baseball. Nice, 1-handed play through with an efficient lower half.

Throw: 74 mph arm strength to home plate. Uber loose arm. Much more strength to come.

8/1/18
A lefty swinger with a very smooth, efficient stroke. Gets solid use out of lower half, creating both energy and consistent timing. Nice, level swing through the zone with a balanced offering of strength/speed to hands. Line drive swinger now who should develop into a gap guy with maturity. In the outfield he plays under control too and through. Arm plays as a well above average tool for class. Would like to see him get rid of the baseball a bit quicker at times.
