2014 Underclass Spotlight: Tavin Howard (Briggs HS)

Tavin HowardTavin Howard, OF, Briggs HS, Class of 2014

Years ago, the Columbus City league produced some of the top players and teams in the State.

While baseball programs have declined in inner-city high schools, there are still many diamonds in the rough.

Tavin Howard, a talented sophomore outfielder from Briggs High School, is one of those diamonds.

The 16th ranked prospect in the Class of 2014 recently showed off his talents at the PBR Pre-Season Underclass Showcase.

His scouting report notes:

An electric player who is just surfacing his ability. Athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound body that will get stronger. His bat is his best asset. Has balanced stance with good hand load, squares barrel on ball with good finish and lower body torque. Excellent bat speed (85 bat velo), when he connects the sound is different from others. Ran 5.02 40 yard dash (concrete surface). Good defensive skills, shows balance and hands with 77 mph arm strength. Has potential to be a 5-tool kid. Definite D-1 projection as an outfielder.

This summer, Howard will be playing for the 15U Ohio Elite.

He will be participating in the Underclass Games at The Ohio State University and the Midwest Futures Games powered by Under Armour at the University of Illinois.
