Scouting Report
01/27/18- Tennessee recruit. Currently stands 6-foot-4, 200 pounds with a tall, strong frame. Throws out of the high ¾ slot with a windup that he consistently repeats, looking to throw off the timing of the hitter with a big leg kick. Lands out in front and looks to attack hitters. Fastball mostly sat in the 82-83 mph range along with a 69-71 mph above average changeup. Throws his changeup for strikes and at any part in the count. Knows how to pitch and should see some jumps in velocity as he continues to mature.
08/22/17- Committed to the University of Tennessee.
08/06/17- Committing to Tennessee after the event, Mcauley had first stood out at the Preseason All-State showing his present stuff and advanced pitchability. At the Future Games, he worked mostly off of his offspeed, working three innings. He has a feel for four pitches, the best of which being an above average to plus changeup. He has a big, durable frame and the fastball ranged up to 85 mph. As he continues to elan out, the stuff will continue to improve and projects to have three above average pitches and be able to start at the next level.
01/21/17- The 6-foot-4, 200-pound RHP/1B showed command for three above average pitches, and overall excellent feel for how to pitch stood out at PBR Florida’s Preseason All State event. Working his fastball in and out with precision at 81-84, McCauley pitches like an upperclassman who has every understanding of how to disrupt hitter’s timing. With a methodical motion that he calmly repeats every time, McCauley uses a long arm swing that gives way to quick hand speed out of a high ¾ slot. His changeup (69-71) may be his best secondary offering right now with late fade although his curveball shows 11/5 break with tight spin and has a chance to be a swing and miss pitch in the future. McCauley set up hitters masterfully during his short stint on the mound. He spotted each hitter’s weakness, formulated a plan of attack, and executed with ease. Offensively, he shows some strength and an exit velocity of 79 mph. Though tall and athletic, McCauley has not yet filled out physically and his ceiling is high. This will make him a high priority for recruiters this summer
09/17/16- The 6-foot-3, 200 pound right handed pitcher was very impressive in his two innings of work. He showed advanced feel for pitching, especially for his class. With a clean high ¾ arm action, he is balanced and in line. When he learns how to drive down the mound and get some extension, there will be a big jump in the velocity. His fastball ranged from 82-84 mph and topped out at 86 mph. He also showed a feel for a plus changeup that he would turn over with the same arm speed as the fastball at 70 mph. The curveball tended to back up on him, but showed good shape at 69 mph. He has an extremely projectable frame, clean and easy arm action and feel for pitching. As he continues to develop, he will have a chance to be a very high end pitching prospect.
