2021 Future Games Spotlight: Jacob McKenzie

The 2021 PBR Future Games has come and gone. The event featured the top uncommitted 2023 and 2024 players around the country representing their home state in front of over 350+ college coaches. Team Florida was a fun and talented squad who showcased their abilities all week. They would go 2-0-1 with wins over Carolina and Mid-Atlantic and a tie vs Georgia.
Post event, we will be spotlighting each member of Team Florida. Continuing with 2023 C Jacob McKenzie. McKenzie is a strong 5-foot-10, 180 pound catcher from Winter Springs. He plays travel ball with the Orlando Scorpions. McKenzie has a strong lower half that he uses well to drive the ball with an aggressive pull side approach. 2 hits and 2 RBI during gameplay at the Future Games. Defensively, he moves well behind the plate with an above average arm. Pop times of 1.95-2.12 as he threw out a base stealer in game.

Scouting Report
5-foot-10, 180-pound athletic build. Above average in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 91 mph. Started in a tall balanced stance with an arm bar low load, then used a leg kick stride. Bat speed was efficient quick, had a level upward swing plane and a back foot finish. He found multiple barrels with loud contact. Up the middle pull side approach. While catching, his best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 76 mph; shows consistent rhythmic feet, a natural exchange, and soft hands. displayed his ability to control the run game with a pop time of 1.96-2.08. Above average flexibility and flexible setup. Used a short loose arm action with an-over-the-top slot while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.69.
Positional Profile: C/3B - Uncommitted, Big frame with room for growth makes him a prospect to watch as he flashes raw abilities at the plate and behind it.
Body: 5-foot-10, 190-pounds. Thick, durable frame. Big body with a chance to fill out.
Defense: 2.08-2.22 pop times. Quick transfer on throw downs. A little loose with the glove but is pretty sure handed.
Arm: RH. C - 72 mph. Quick arm short action over the top with extension.
Hit: RHH. Tall stance, feet closer together. Hands loose with bat resting on shoulder. Gets on plane early. Keeps the barrel in the zone a long time and splits the gaps when he's on the barrel.
Power: 91 mph exit velocity.
Run: 8.16 runner in the 60.
