2023 Junior Future Games: Team Carolina SC- Game 1 Recap

Team Carolina SC- 13  Team Tennessee- 3


Team Carolina SC took on Team Tennessee in the first round of pool play on Wednesday afternoon.  In the afternoon heat Team Carolina SC bats came out as hot as the LakePoint turf.  Off to great starts on the mound, Connor Wells with a great start going 3 innings pitched 1 hit with 1 run and 7 strikeouts.  Easton Rider came in and closed out the game with the final inning with 2 runs.    

Team Carolina SC scored 13 runs highlighted by Emmanuel Benitez with 2 hits and 2 RBI and Christian Spivey with 2 hits with 2 RBI.  Team Carolina SC will be back at it on Thursday night against Team Louisiana.


PLAYER NOTES



Connor Wells, LHP, 2027

Large long lanky frame with tons of projection at 6’5 175 pounds. Throwing from a H ¾ with a quick loose arm attached hitts with his fastball that he was able to move around the zone while pitching 82-86 mph. Curveball showed the makings of a plus pitch with depth with a 11/4 break to it. Big time promising arm that show instant impact with tons of projection down the road



Easton Rider, RHP, 2027

Extra large frame at 6’5 250 pounds.  Throwing from a low ¾ arm slot with good whippy action to it. Fastball shows good promise to it while sitting 76-80 mph with some arm side run.  Breaking ball is more of a sweeper while sitting 66-68 mph. Has a tendency to get under it but when on top has good side to side action.  Big body that will continue to impress as he continues to mature. 



Trip Ostergard, INF, 2027

Lean athletic frame 5-10 153 pounds. Showed a great plate approach while looking to do damage on pitches he can hit. Laying off pitches and taking a couple walks in game one resulted in an RBI. His second at bat, really got his barrel through the zone and delivered his top hand while driving a ball back through the middle with a hard line drive RBI single. Fun athletic player that plus really good actions in the infield as well. 

 

Rome DeRenzo, 1B, 2027

Big strong physical frame at 6-1 190 pounds with present strength. Aggressive hitter that is looking to do damage with each swing. His second AB got a pitch to handle and really delivered the barrel to the ball and smoked a 2 RBI single back up the middle. Physical presence in box that also shows good bat speed while keeping barrel in zone.
