Prep Baseball Report

A look at our recent Summer ID Showcase

Prep Baseball Report - Mississippi held its annual Summer Identification Showcase this past Tuesday at Trustmark Park in Pearl. The home of the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Braves saw roughly 120 of Mississippi’s up and coming prospects, including the debut of the class of 2024.

A complete list of players stats will be available tomorrow!

There were several players that raised eye brows. Here’s a list of a few players that stood out......

Cal Culpepper (Clarkdale - 2023) was impressive with a top velocity of the day at 88 mph. He also displayed some depth on his breaking ball that will give hitters trouble.

Justin Robinson (Pearl River Central - 2022) throws the baseball like a seasoned vet with great feel for three pitches and a fastball that shows excellent arm side run and gets up to 87 mph.

Cayden Baker (Lewisburg - 2024) is an arm to keep an eye on. The rising freshman has a frame that should continue to development nicely while showing decent feel for all pitches and a fastball that reached 78 mph.

Jackson Cheek (Nettleton - 2022) continues to be a name that stands out at PBR events. Cheek showed some serious pop with a showcase high 97 mph exit velocity.

Cooper Cooksey (Bay - 2021) should start to receive more offers. The right handed hitter displayed a balanced approach at the plate with an exit velocity of 92 mph. Cooksey also looked polished on the mound with some tight spin on his breaking ball and a fastball that sat 85-86 mph.

Gage Haley (Lewisburg - 2023) will be fun to watch over the next few years. The big (6’5”) right handed hitting first baseman showed the ability to lift the baseball and will develop into a serious power threat. Haley also looked strong on the mound with a fastball up to 84 mph with more coming!

Mason McMillin (Mooreville - 2024) will probably start getting lots of attention soon. He is another frame that stands out, but also makes you take notice at the plate. McMillin had an exit velocity of 84 mph at the event but that should rise quickly as he continues to mature.

Thomas Hollingsworth (Germantown - 2021) looked solid behind the plate showing a strong arm and an event best pop time of 1.91.
