OUTLOOK:

The Handley Tigers return five positional players and two pitchers from an area championship team in 2019. With only two experienced pitchers returning in 2020 there is an obvious need to find some arms to provide depth on the mound. A few proven guys return and the Tigers will lean heavily on them. ‘20 RHP/OF Logan Smith returns and will be counted on as a two way guy for the Tigers. The RHP shows a live arm on the mound with nice downward tilt on his fastball from his 6’3 frame and should also be a big run producer in the middle of the lineup. Smith is coming off of knee surgery. Another senior, INF/OF Riley Owens is an outstanding defender as an infielder and an outfielder. Owens handles the barrel well to all fields and returns after leading the 2019 team in hitting. Yet another guy that will be counted on in a two way capacity is ‘21 C/OF/RHP Brantley Richardson. He has the potential to be very good on the mound and will be a key cog for the Tigers on the bump. He is another one that will be counted on to deliver offensively and has high level athletic ability that allows him to defend well behind the plate and in the outfield. Evan Cofield also returns in 2020 as a dynamic outfielder and a key ingredient to the offensive plans. When Cofield gets on base he usually scores. He also doubles as the QB on the Tiger football team. Freshman SS/2B Ty Fetner is a young player that is being counted on to contribute as well. He shows very fluid actions on the infield with the glove and he is a tough out and the plate as he handles the bat well and works the count well during his AB’s. The Tigers are looking for a repeat area championship in 2020.
