All State Games: Northeast Preview

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

Saturday October 31st is the first PBR Arkansas All-State Games the event is going to be hosted at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. This event is going to feature over 80 of the top players in the state, the players will be representing each of the five regions of the state. Here is a look ahead at some of the players I expect to stand out for Team Northeast Arkansas:

Pitcher

Ryan Czanstkowski 2016 RHP Mountain Home HS

Czanstkowski is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He works from a H3/4 arm slot with a quick loose arm. His fastball was 83-86 mph with slight arm-side run. He located a 11/5 curveball with early break for strikes thrown at 69-72 mph. He pitched 3 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 3. His frame will hold more weight and his athleticism says he will throw harder as he continues to develop. He repeats his mechanics which should allow him to throw strikes consistently as he continues to mature. Czanstkowski is uncommitted as of now, one of the better uncommitted 2016’s still available.

Top Defender

J. Paul Fullerton C, 2016 Harding Academy HS
Fullerton is a 6-foot-1 185-pound left-handed hitting catcher with a large frame and an average build. Fullerton threw a 1.93-2.01 during the pro-style work out. He has a strong accurate arm with carry, he would benefit from staying online through the plate instead of working around the plate, but overall a solid defender. Offensively he starts from an open stance diving back into the plate, he does get back on line, and works through the ball with a downhill bat path. His swing mechanically is sound, I would like to see him take a bug guys approach and let the bat go a little more. Right now his approach is to be consistent singles hitter. Overall Fullerton is an advanced catch and throw guy with good instincts and leadership capabilities. He is short offensively to be considered a college ready hitter.

Best Athlete

Pierce Mitchum OF, 2017 Heber Springs HS
is a 5-foot-9 160-pound outfielder with a medium frame and physical build. He played through the baseball with a fluid exchange and an accurate arm. He registered up to 83 mph throwing from the outfield. Offensively he has a short lined drive swing with fast bat speed. He produced exit velocity up to 89 mph. Mitchum is a premium athlete running a 6.59 and the 60. As he continues to develop Mitchum should turn into one of the better prospects in the 2017

Best Dual Player

Evan Hooper OF/RHP 2017 Cabot HS
Hooper is a 5-foot-11 175-pound OF/RHP with a wide shoulders and an athletic build. Defensively he is sound with the ability to defend gap-to-gap due to his overall sped. He runs a 6.34 in the 60. He has a short arm action that is accurate with carry at 85 mph. Offensively he has a line drive swing with fast bat speed. He produces exit velocity up to 95 mph. He repeats his mechanics and stays balanced through extension. Overall Hooper is a rare athlete with a ton of tools, over time he should develop more offensively finding barrel on a more consistent basis. As a pitcher Hooper works from below 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm. He attacks the bottom half of the strike zone with a fastball 83-86 up to 88 mph. The fastball has sink with slight cut. He compliments his fastball with a Frisbee breaking ball thrown 70-72 mph, and a change up with arm side run thrown with fastball arm speed and a He has repeatable mechanics and rhythm. Overall Hooper has good deception and stuff, I project him more as an outfielder but it isn't far-fetched to see him pitch out of the bullpen at the next level either.

Hitter

Adrian Hannah 2017 CIF Searcy HS
Hannah is a 6-foot-2 200-pound corner infielder with a large frame and physical build. His uphill bat path with fast bat speed produces exit velocity up to 88 mph. He repeats his swing maintaining rhythm and balance throughout. Defensively he has some stiffness to his hands and foot work. He has an accurate arm with a fluid exchange. Overall Hannah is a polished hitter, as he develops athletically he will improve defensively and should develop into a quality collegiate player. Hannah impress at times showing pull side power.

Sleeper

Ty Gordon, RHP, 2016 Greene County Tech HS
Gordon is a 6-foot-5 right hander with a large frame and an average build. He pitched an efficient three innings inducing groundballs while striking out 1. Gordon does a good job creating angles using his height pitching at a downhill angle from a H3/4 arm slot. His fastball was 83-86 mph with slight sink. He located a curveball with 11/5 shape and early break. Gordon’s best secondary pitch is his changeup that he throws at near fastball arm speed with arm side run 72-75 mph. Overall Gordon is a big kid that needs to gain strength, he looks young for his class, so he should develop more than the average kid in his class. The arm is clean and uses very little lower half.

Up and Comers:

Pate Fullerton, MIF, 2018, Harding Academy: A polished middle infielder with a quick release and an accurate arm. Offensively a compact swing with fast bat speed, he doesn’t get cheated on balls in the strike zone.

Preston Hart, MIF, 2017 Greene County Tech HS: A solid actions with good defensive actions and a quick release. A competitive hitter that grinds out at bats
