We would like to thank all who participated in The 2018 BC ProCase. This was a great opportunity for 2018-2021 prospects to be identified before season, create and update their profiles, as well see where they stack up with their peers. This was a great day to see so many talented players on one field together, and give professional scouts a chance to get a last look at the 2018 class and begin their work on the upcoming 2019 draft prospects. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase and below we have the complete statistical results from the event as well as the top performers across various different categories.

In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

BC Insider: BC ProCase - Quick Hits

May 8th we ran our first ever pro event at Mcleod Park in Langley, BC. It was a gorgeous day and we started off with 60’s where Jayden Knight was the fastest on the day running a blistering 6.57. After the 60’s we worked out the players at their specific positions where Tasai Yahiro was the top outfield arm 90 mph from right field. Daniel Martin and Justin Thorsteinson were the next two best arms from the outfield with a throwing velocity of 87 mph. Top arms across the diamond were Dylan Ohlsen 88 mph, Ryan Bietel at 83 mph and Sampson Back at 81 mph. Pitchers really impressed as every arm we ran out showed stuff along with high compete and energy levels.

Below we take a look at some of the names that stood out on the day.

THE BATS

Dylan Ohlsen SS / Chilliwack, BC / 2018

Report: Big and physical with a muscular build at 6-foot, 200-pounds, had a strong showing in BP showing above average power with a quiet, short compact stroke with lift. During the game pitchers could not get him out collecting three hits and showed good plate coverage hitting balls all over the field. He had an exit velo of 95 mph and the Sacramento State commit is one of the top right-handed bats in the country.

Daniel Martin OF / SS / Langley, BC / 2019

Report: Was another stand out at the plate collecting two hits in the game, showing quick hands at the plate and had an exit velo of 88 mph. Martin showed strike zone awareness, attacking balls in the zone and using the whole field, the Niagara commit has knack for finding the barrel and is a tough out at the plate.

Joshua Marchese 1B / OF / Saint Thomas More, BC / 2018

Report: At 6-foot-2, 230-pounds, Marchese, a Niagara commit put on a power display during BP and had the top exit velocity at 99 mph. Josh has a quick and powerful swing with good extension and slight upward plane that allows him to drive balls in the air and the power and strength to leave any ballpark.

THE ARMS

David Rhodes RHP / OF / Langley Fine Arts, BC / 2018

Report: Rhodes came as as advertised at the ProCase, showing why he’s the 2018 top Prospect in BC. Rhodes pitched 89-90 the entire time along with breaking off some sharp curveballs with good depth in the upper-70s. The delivery and arm work, as he gets out front with good extension and moves his fastball around the zone. There is life out the hand and not to many good swings were taken against Rhodes this day.

Eli Saul RHP / 1B / Prince of Wales, BC / 2019

Report: The 2019 grad was outstanding on the mound as his fastball had sink along with run as he worked in the 87-90 range with easy arm action and a ¾ arm slot. He pounded the zone with three pitches, all for strikes with a true slider 75-77 mph and a good change up with life which came out of his hand at 77-78 mph. Saul is an uncommitted arm that should draw a lot of attention this summer.

Zachery McQuaid RHP / OF / Maxwell Heights, BC / 2018

Report: One of the top arms on the day throwing 86-89 mph with clean mechanics and a live arm. He throws from a ¾ arm slot with run on his fastball, his curveball was the best on the day at 71-73 with good depth and sharp break, he maintains arm speed making it difficult to pick up out the hand. He threw a couple good change ups 80-82 mph but this pitch is a work in progress right now and has not gained a feel for it yet.

THE GLOVES

Dylan Ohlsen SS / Chilliwack, BC / 2018

Report: Ohlsen is not just all bat as he the third baseman should feel with the glove, making some solid plays flashing the leather and showing off his strong arm which rated the highest of all the infielders on the day. He reads balls off the bat well and has a quick first step to help him attack balls. He is a Sac State Commit and will not have a problem transitioning his game to the college level at third base.

Ryan Beitel SS / RHP / Langley, BC / 2019

Report: Was another stand out from the ProCase as Bietel moves very well laterally and can go get balls to either side well. He has arm strength to remain at shortstop with good actions, which will allow him to play short at the next level without a problem. He can go to the six hole and make the throw across the diamond with ease and quickness.

Wyatt Schnorr C / OF / St. Thomas More Collegiate, BC / 2018

Report: Schnorr is one of the most athletic players in the province as the UBC commit moved well and showcased his agility behind the plate on the day. There is arm strength and feel for the position, and he moved well side to side keeping balls in front of him. His speed and athleticism could possibly see him move from behind the plate, but for now Schnorr is a top prospect as he oozes athleticism.
