Please give a little background on the Mount St. Mary’s baseball program.
- Mount St. Mary's has won a regular season championship 2007, NEC Conference Championship in 2008. 35 players have been all conference selections, 17 players sign professional contracts 1997-2016.
What is unique to the program that the coaching staff and team take great pride in?
- We take great pride in our E.T. Straw Family stadium keeping it one of the nicest facilities in the mid-Atlantic area. We focus on two community service projects a year.
What do you look for in potential players?
- We look to see if they will be a good fit in our baseball family. Are they good academically, do they have good character, do they put others before themselves..
Are there any immediate “Red Flags” when recruiting players?
- Lack of effort and character
Any interesting facts or stories about the program?
- We are the second oldest catholic institution in the United States.
Are there any base numbers you are looking for on the academic side?
- We look for students to have above a 3.0 GPA and 1050 on SAT scores or 22 ACT.
Have any players gone on to play professionally from the program? If so, how many?
- We have had 17 players sign professional contracts and one player currently in AAA with the Atlanta Braves. (Brady Fiegl)
Do you have any advice for prospective student athletes as they go through the recruiting process?
- Make sure you visit schools you are interested in. Attend their summer camps if they have any. Work hard in the classroom. Always hustle you never know who is watching.
