No. 17 Star City High School 3 vs Little Rock Central High School 5
Little Rock Central beat Star City 5-3 Monday afternoon at Coleman field, on the campus of Central High School.
Star City came out swinging it well scoring two runs in the first. 2016 RHP/MIF Blake Wynne walked to lead off the game followed by back to back singles by 2016, RHP/UTL Garry Hill and 2016 C Austin Powell, which scored Wynne. Hill scored on a sac fly by 2016 CIF Austin Capps. The damage could have been worse but Rashaud Townsend threw out Austin Powell from left-field and the final out was made on a passed ball.
Scoring maintained stagnant from there on due to quality pitching on both sides and some big defensive player. 2016 RHP Garry Hill from Star City HS, threw 3 innings, with 5 strikes, 1 walk and 1 hit. Central received a quality start from 2017 RHP Tipton Robinson who pitched 4 innings allowing 2 runs while striking out 6.
Central scratched across a run in the 5th when 2015 MIF Lance Nolen, reaches on a bunt single, stole second and advanced home on two passed balls. After 5 innings the score was 2-1 Star City.
In the bottom of the 6th Central continued to manufacture runs in the 6th with 3 infield singles and 2 stolen bases. The big blow came from 2016 CIF Jonathan Carruth double that drove in the game tying run. After Carruth’s double the tigers went their bunt game successfully pushing across 1 run. The final two runs scored on a sharply hit ball to first that was misplayed.
Star City Challenged again in the 7th with singles from Blake Wynne and Garry Hill, but solid defense by the Tigers put the game away.
