Eastern Canada ProCase: Quick Hits

Cam Black-Araujo
Assistant Director, PBR Canada

This past week the PBR Canada staff hosted a pair of ProCase's, one on each side of the country, for the first time since 2018 with the Western ProCase in Langley, BC and the Eastern ProCase in Oakville, Ontario.

The event in Ontario featured 13 positional players and 10 arms with the majority of players coming from the 2024 and 2025 classes, along with a trio of players from the 2026 classes. The event is tailored towards top players on the East side of the country who may get looks from pro scouts, whether that's directly out of high school or following a college career. ProCase's also allow the local scouts a chance to see the players all in one location ahead of the fall season.

With a ton of high-end talent in attendance, along with a slew of top uncommitted players in the country, we begin to break down some of the standout players below with scouting reports and notes on seven of the top performers.

Ryan (RJ) James RHP / Sir John A MacDonald, ON / 2024

2024 RHP Ryan James (Evansville commit) put together the top pitching performance of the event, generating swings/misses on multiple pitches and punched out the first four batters he faced. 6-foot-2, 200-pounds right-hander who’s fastball sat 86-89mph and featured a pair of quality breaking balls with a curveball at 73mph and a slider with tight, sweeping action at 76-80mph Also flashed a changeup and showed the ability to throw all four pitches for strikes. James has really seemed to elevate his game over the past four months or so as the velocity has ticked up and he’s gained confidence in his entire arsenal, consistently attacking hitters.

Mason Ault C / 3B / Ancaster, ON / 2025

2025 C Mason Ault has proven to be one of the top defensive catchers across the country in his class and displayed that once again at the ProCase. Posted the top catcher velocity (80mph) and pop-time (1.81-2.00) at the event with the arm strength and quick release allowing him to consistently catch runners in-game. The right-handed bat has continued to develop as he’s matured and added some strength. Still more projection in there at 6-foot, 175-pounds and was attending the ProCase fresh off a gold medal at the Canada Cup in Regina.

Will Hynes RHP / Lorne Park Secondary, ON / 2026

2026 RHP Will Hynes (Wake Forest commit) flashed some of the better stuff we saw at the event. 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hander generated plenty of uncomfortable swings with his three-pitch mix as the fastball sat 85-87mph with armside run. Tight spin to the slider at 76-80mph along with an impressive change at 81mph with heavy horizontal action. Commanded all three pitches and each have different movement patterns and characteristics. One of the top 2026 arms in the country and the quality of his offspeed stuff and has really trended upwards this past year.

Brayden Ricketts C / 3B / Jean Augustine Secondary School, ON / 2024

2024 C/1B Brayden Ricketts was one of the most impactful bats at the ProCase and it began with his rounds of BP, consistently lifting the ball to the pullside with loud contact. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound left-hander hitter followed it up in-game with several hard-hit balls against quality arms. The bat continues to standout every time he takes the field and is no-doubt one of the top 2024 bats in the country still on the board

Ryan Press LHP / OF / Tanenbaum, ON / 2024

2024 LHP Ryan Press (West Virginia commit) has put together a strong summer between his season with the Toronto Mets and this past week at the Canada Cup in Regina. 6-foot-1, 170-pounds who moves well on the mound with a quick arm that has length in the back. The fastball sat comfortably at 88-90mph and generated whiffs on the curveball at 68-70mph with 12-6 look. The sweeping slider at 79-92mph has the chance to become a real weapon as he continues to develop feel.

Matthew Kolodziej SS / 3B / White Oaks , ON / 2026

2026 SS Matthew Kolodziej was one of just two positional 2026s to attend the ProCase and oozes projectability at 6-foot-1, 165-pounds. Length and athletic movements at shortstop provide him with plenty of range, along with quick feet and arm strength (82mph). Shows early signs he could stick at position long-term. Smooth and balanced swing from the left-side with the ability to find the barrel. Will be fun to watch over the next couple years as the strength begins to enter his game. One of the top 2026 positional prospects in the province.

Max Jewusiak OF / 1B / Assumption, ON / 2024

2024 OF/1B Max Jewusiak is one of the stronger players in Ontario’s 2024 class at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds and flashed that strength at the ProCase. Was one of the top hitters in live game-action with a homerun to the opposite field and a loud barrel to the LCF gap against of the top arms at the event. The power in his bat and ability to tap into it will be what carries his game at the next level.
