Future Games Trials (Session 1): Quick Hits

On Friday, April 7th, the PBR Ontario staff headed to The Athlete Matrix facility in Mississauga to host our first Future Games Trials showcase of the season. We had over 100 players from the 2025 and 2026 classes in attendance for the sold out event.
The event gave our staff a look at some of the top uncommitted players in those classes who are all vying for a spot on Canada's team at this summer's Future Games at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, Georgia. It was a talented roster with a ton of impressive performances on both sides of the ball and we continue to break it all down below.
At this event, we retrieved a significant amount of data on each player including: 30-yard times, batting practice measured by TrackMan, catcher pop-times and velocity, outfield evaluation and velocity, infield evaluation and velocity and pitcher bullpens analyzed and assessed by TrackMan. We pride ourselves on utilizing the latest technology in the game to provide the most accurate data for both the player and those recruiting/evaluating the player.

FUTURE GAMES TRIALS (SESSION 1): QUICK HITS

Alex Uher RHP / USS, ON / 20252025 RHP Alex Uher was one of the most impressive arms we saw on the weekend. A little undersized at 5-foot-9, 170-pounds but it’s a quick, clean arm with quality stuff and command. The fastball sat 89-90 T90.8 with above-average spin (2483rpm avg.) and filled up the zone with it. The pitch graded out well on our PBR Pitch Scores with a Hop+ score of 107. Worked with a tight and firm slider at 80-83mph (2284rpm avg.) and was able to locate with it. Also flashed a good looking changeup that he sells well with armspeed and some heavy fade/downward action to it. One of the more impressive bullpens we’ve seen this spring from a 2025 arm.

Josiah Romeo SS / RHP / Mayfield secondary school, ON / 20252025 RHP/SS Josiah Romeo was the most intriguing two-way player at the event and looks the part at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds and moves well for his size. Velocity comes easy to him on the mound as he sat 88-90mph with the fastball from a minimal effort delivery. Also worked with a slider at 76-78 with tight, late horizontal break and has feel for the changeup at 78-80 with some late fade to it. Has the actions and arm strength on the infield (88mph) and projects more as a third baseman down the line. Right-handed hitter with strength and does a good job getting his hands through the ball. Generated a top exit velocity 94mph and top distance of 325ft.

Ben Goodacre RHP / OF / Ancaster, ON / 20252025 RHP/OF Ben Goodacre was another one of the highly intriguing arms at Friday’s showcase. Impressed at the New Year Open back in February and continues to trend upwards. Lengthy, wiry and high-waisted frame at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds with a live and loose arm action. His fastball sat 87-89 T90 with good spin (2340rpm avg.) and creates some serious vertical break with 23.3 avg. IVB on the pitch. Curveball sat 71-73mph with both a vertical and horizontal look (Sweep+ of 102), along with a developing splitter at 75-76mph. Flashed his arm strength in the outfield working up to 93mph and generated a peak exit velocity of 88.3mph from the right-side of the dish. One of the higher upside arms in Ontario’s 2025 class.

Aiden Taggart RHP / Grimsby, ON / 2025Rankings StateRank: 39 / POS: 13
2025 RHP Aiden Taggart was another impressive arm from Fieldhouse and stands out with a strong frame on the mound at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds. Right-handed pitcher who works with intent and a quick arm while tunneling all his pitches well. The fastball sat 87-88mph with some armside run. Lacks some consistency with the breaking ball but the pitch has potential as he snapped off a couple sharp ones with vertical, top-to-bottom action. Also flashed a changeup at 75-78mph with heavy horizontal break (20.2in. avg.) but lacks fade right now. Intriguing overall profile as he continues to develop and refine his offspeed arsenal.

Owen Ralph SS / RHP / Riverdale, ON / 2025Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 3
2025 SS/RHP Owen Ralph was another top performing two-way player at the event and showed well in all areas of the game. Athletic 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame with more strength to come and moves with confidence on the infield. Clean actions, the feet work and there’s arm strength (87mph) and the ability to throw from multiple slots. Right-handed hitter with a smooth, fluid swing and found the barrel at a rate of 88% with a peak exit velocity of 88.6mph. There’s also some upside on the mound where his athletic movements show and the fastball sat 85-87mph with armside run. Slider was 71-72mph along with a changeup 74-76 with some heavy horizontal run. Quality overall showing and the tools with only get louder as he fills out and adds strength.

DJ Mazzaferro SS / RHP / USS, ON / 2026Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 4
2026 SS/RHP DJ Mazzaferro was one of the top 2026s at the event and flashed his upside at the dish, on the infield and on the mound. The right-handed hitter put together one of the best rounds of BP with consistent line drive contact and quick-twitch actions. Had the top line drive at 66%, found the barrel 77% of the time with a peak exit velocity of 89.8mph and distance of 323ft. Athleticism and range at the shortstop position with arm strength across the diamond. Fastball sat 83-84mph and fills up the zone. Has really refined his offspeed stuff since the fall with feel for the curveball and changeup. One of the top 2026 prospects in Ontario.

Quinn Carson OF / OF / Loyola CSS, ON / 20252025 OF Quinn Carson was one of the more physical players at the event at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds and had some of the louder tools in the outfield and at the dish. Over half his batted balls came off the bat at 90+ mph and his peak exit velocity (98.4mph) and peak distance (348ft.) were both tops at the event. Right-handed hitter stands out with his bat speed and strength. Was up to 89mph from the outfield and it will be interesting to see him in-game this summer and how he handles the outfield position. Also ran the 10th-best 30-yard time at 3.93.

Mason Ault C / 3B / Ancaster, ON / 20252025 C Mason Ault was the top catcher at the event and the bat has really developed and progressed over the past year. Proportionate frame at 6-foot, 180-pounds with room to add more strength. Posted the top catcher velocity at 76mph along with the best pop-time, ranging from 1.90-1.96 with a quick transfer and accurate arm. Right-handed hitter with a balanced setup and swing with high hands. Does a good job using his lower half to help generate bat speed and found the barrel at a rate of 70% with a peak exit velocity of 91.4mph. A catcher in Ontario’s 2025 class that should create some buzz this summer.
