GHSA Playoffs: Wolfpack Move Along With Sweep Over Brookwood
May 9, 2021
Dallas, GA - A competitive matchup between two 7A teams took place on Thursday between No. 11 North Paulding and the Broncos of Brookwood. Game One was a back-and-forth battle that North Paulding won in walk-off fashion, 8-7. The Wolfpack would also take Game Two to advance to the next round by a score of 8-4.
Game One
The Broncos were the first to strike, and in a big way, to start the day. Georgia Southern recruit, Jonathan Jaime (2021), would single with one out in the inning. Following Jaime was Winthrop catching recruit Jack Spyke (2021). Spyke put a smooth swing on a fastball, sending it over the RF fence for a two-run homer.

In the bottom of the first inning, North Paulding would get one run back. Mitchell Heer (Wallace State), who had a big day for the Wolfpack, singled and advanced to second base on a Brookwood error. After advancing the third base, Heer would score on a passed ball to cut the lead to one run after one inning of play.
The second inning would be a big one for North Paulding, starting with a leadoff walk by South Alabama commit, Grayson Taylor (2022). After a SAC bunt that would result in another Brookwood error, Payton Doyle would draw a walk to load the bases, followed by a walk drawn by Parker Doyle (Spring Hill), which tied the game. Another walk would give the Wolfpack their first lead of the game and would bring up Mitchell Heer.

With runners on first and second, Jonathan Jaime would place a blooper in front of the North Paulding left fielder scoring a run. A misplay from the Wolfpack would bring in another run to cut the deficit to one run.
